Do you want a cool Porsche poster?

Fellow Pelicanites........

I stopped by two local P-dealers this weekend in Altanta to check out the big 40th birthday celebration as well as pick up parts, and both were giving away a free Porsche poster (22 X 28) that celebrates 40 years of the 911. Its pretty cool and certainly a collectible item. Its worth framing.

Additionally, I was surprised as well to see that they were handing out a fine magazine called, "Christophorus" that was devoted to the 40 year anniversay of the 911. Good quality publication.

Thought I would pass this on if anyone is planning a visit to a P-dealer anytime soon.

Thanks for the heads up. I HATE going into the local P-car dealer. they look at me like "what are YOU doing here". But, I think this is worth a visit.

I did the same thing this weekend. I got the cool poster, but didn't see the magazine. They had a nice 356sc, a '67 911S, a 71T and GT2 out front. Good food, low key, not bad. I still would never take my car to a dealer, but it's always great to hang out with the folks who show up.

FWIW, the '67S they had out front was a concourse car with the original window sticker and belonged to a dealerhship employee. I've gotten some real nice compliments on my 993 from those guys too. They're not all bad. I just don't care for the new Porsches and would never let them work on my car. Other than that, they're great to have around.

I went into my local dealer as well looking for the poster. Not only did they not have it, but when I was talking to a couple of the salesmen and they found out I had an 86, they got extremely rude. I was pretty annoyed by the whole situation.

They did have a 2004 911 Turbo cab that looked pretty cool though, although not nearly cool enough for the price...

As I was leaveing another salesmen came up that was from Gremany, heavey accent and all and was actually super nice. As I was on my bike (BMW R1150GS) he wanted to talk about that. I ended up talking to him for a while.

I never did get the poster though, if anyone has an extra I'd be more than happy to mail a poster tuube to yo with enough for return postage.

In general, I've found the the sales droids at the dealers to turn into pr!cks when they find out you drive an early car.

One time I went to Niello, and all the droids were watching a game on TV. One of them just looked up at me and said "Parts is thataway" and went back to the game.

Cannot help but chime in here..............

The poster is a factory print, so every dealer should be stocking them. How many in print I do not know, but you would think on a 40th anniversay they should have enough for the masses. Look at the Boxster posters of years gone by. You could'nt walk into a dealership without someone tripping over themselves to give you one, especially if you had a young kid in tow with you!!

The P-dealers in Atlanta are decent folks, and some have been around a few years who are familiar with the older models, but overall the sales people are like any other, and thats to sell you a car and make a living.

The days of hanging out in the showroom talking of Carrera races, James Dean and his last ride, and why Saab took the 900
number anyways, is long gone.........At least they were good enough to put out a commemorative poster.

Regards
Bob

It would take a lot more than a poster, to get me to suck-up to the local Stealer.

I went to Bert Smith - local Porsche dealer in St. Pete - quite the shin dig. They had a band, they had free food, they had free drinks (soft ones) They gave out free posters, did I mention the free food? - They had three cars up on lifts in the service bay - one a SC - one a 964 and a new 996 - wow what a difference from the bottom looking up!

The also had a turbo cabriolet - one guy had the hood up looking at the engine - I decided to take a look but was really put off by the amount of plastic - and my god - you couldn't see anything of substance under it. I imagine a nightmare servicing. Nice lines.

Funny thing was me - and a guy that had an 80's Turbo were parked out front - I think as many people looked at our cars than the ones on the showroom.

Got my poster - Had lunch, blipped the throttle as I left the parking lot...

Not doing very well lately...

Jeremy, I was in St. Pete on Saturday - came home and found my next door neighbour had cut out an advert from a magazine advertising the Porsche 911 40th Anniversary Celebration and put it in my mail box. Doh!

I got 6 posters at Hennessy in Roswell. They combined their grand opening with the 40th celebration.

Hennessy had about 6 911 race cars in the showroom, and I loaned them my 88 Cab for the day to put on display outside with about 9 other pre 89 street 911s. When I brought the car up, I had the General manager, several salesmean, and the service director come talk to me about the car. While I told them I probably never would be in the market for a new one, they were friendly and interested in the car and appreciative that I would take the effort. The GM is an old Brumos guy, and currently has several early 911s, including a RSR and 74 Carrera.

For my effort they provided me a Boxster to use for the day.

I went to Plaza here - took me awhile to find the Porsche area since they sell everything else too. The parts counter guy was helpful.

Got the poster, signed up for the drawing. Talked to a salesman who was nice enough I guess. Got their last poster - it's got moisture ripples.

So I drove over to the other dealer in town. There was a beautiful Ivory 73 1/2 911T with an empty space by it right out front (rock star parking!). So I parked there, talked to the other owner (who didn't know about Pelican, but had his car for seven years). Finally went inside, got a spiffy poster, the guy asked if I had kids, sure, so I got another poster.

They also had a sweet silver Maranello (I think) Ferrari with the engine cover lifted - everyone was really nice. The saleschick did say when I was looking at the Boxster on the showroom floor - "That's the car you need." Yeah right...people outside were fascinated by the twin "paid for" 30 year old cars out front!

I went to the local stealer here in Indy and they had to send someone to the back room to look for the poster. They have always treated anyone but the new car buyer like dirt. They did have a new turbo cab on the floor but I think you had to make a deposit on it to touch it.

Well, at least it wasn't just me! Really makes me mad. Most of those snobs selling those cars no nothing about the history behind the car either. I talked to one of them at last years auto show about Porsche racing, and he knew absolutely nothing.

Is the dealer out of them or what? I would love to get one.
