dying headliner

I am in the midst of rebuilding my car and the color of the interior was beige but is going to be black. I was wondering if I can dye the headliner or if I have to replace it to get that nice black color.
Thanks,
Mike

I painted mine black with over-the-counter vinyl spray, from an auto parts store. I cleaned it first with brake parts cleaner. It looks great, and was easy to do, since the windows and interior were already out.

"dying headliner" - I think a well-aimed 9mm parabellum or .45 ACP should administer the coup de grace..........

O, you meant "dyeing" the headliner, well, what Jack said

SEM brand vinyl spray from your local upholstery supply store works great.

White or beige headliners were equipped in some early cars with black interiors. IMHO it looks great.

May depend on the car color though, wouldn't look right on a black car.

Mine's beige and as far as I can tell the car originally had a black interior. I'm going to dye mine black not to be period correct, but because beige shows water stains, etc. Black doesn't.

If you are having a hard time finding the dye listed above, try your local WalMart. I got a couple cans of Molecubond and it works great. Only around $7/can. I think they may have changed the name though. It's made by a company called BAI or BEI or something similar, so just check the back of the can.

My headliner is beige, or actually tan, and it has the stains. I want to keep it the same color. I have the black and tan interior.

Is there a color code that is close to the original?

Hey Mike, I'm thick-skinned - just took an opportunity to make a lame joke, that's why I "winked"

Hope you get your headliner dyed OK. BTW, mine is black and it shows some water stains too where the sunroof leaked before I put a new seal in.
