How much torque (not horsepower) can a 901 withstand?

Garage
Steve Timmins isn't too too far away in DE and he always has engines for sale, which can be test drive in the donor cars first. He has some killer stuff and is a very nice guy too.

Another idea, turn your 2.2 into a 2.7rs spec, you already have a core so you can have it machined to your needs, boat tailing, oil squirters dowel pins put in etc. Or put a 2.7 crank and rods in your 2.2 with the standard P&C's and some yummy cams, quite nice I hear.

Wow! Thanks for the great feedback! When I say my 2.2 is getting tired, I'ts because of the oil consumption. About 1 qt in 500 miles and an awful strong smelling exaust. (not a whole lot of smoke when warmed up,though) Some old records from the p/o indicates a concern about compression. I do have webers and those set up on a 3.0
sounds like a fairly uncomplicated swap. Of course now you guys have me thinking that the 3.2 may be the way to go. I think I will start by calling Rob at dc automotive and see what he can come up with for an engine. I will also conduct some research on machinists in the area who may start me down the path of turning the 2.2 into a 2.7. Hmmm...so many choices so little time! I'll keep you guys posted on what I finally come up with. And it's very reasuring to have the knowledge of this board when questions arise!

A 3.0 in an early, light car is an amazing transformation.

We just converted a customer's (CIS) '73 coupe, replacing a tired 2.4 with a strong '79 3.0. The acceleration is amazing, and the installation is extremely straightforward.

Only side effect is that the 3.0 seems to weigh a bit more and the rear torsion bars may need upgrading.
