Porsche Garage update....

Got the alarm system in....it's 100 feet from the house, the garage door and opener installed...belt drive on both doors now, real quiet.

I get the red and black squares for the floor today....Dan Byers is helping with the interior wiring on Friday,,,,,220 30 amp service is the best I could get up there....gonna have cable TV and a wireless router for the computer.

Can anyone suggest a good wirelss for the box...or have one laying around for sale? I have a cable modem but the ISP only allows one cable modem per household.....that stays in the main house.

Roof and flashing is installed over the weekend.....paint is the last item for the exterior.....after the electrical inspection drywall and it's FREAKING done!!!!!!!!

Pics later today.

Gonna start planning the Santa Barbara fun run and Barbe Que.....it was originally scheduled for the 25th.....but we is a bit late..... :mueba:

I'd suggest the newest technology... an 802.11a Access Point, which can provide up to 54MB throughput....they may even provide a "Turbo" mode to enhance performance. DLink, Linksys and Netgear are good low cost manufacturers. I recently saw good prices a Costco for a nice setup.

Also, consider the following:

If the signal must go through walls it is better to talk straight through to the access point as opposed to a diagonal path. If going through a standard wall on a diag the thicknes can be multiplied MANY times, therefore greatly degrading signal strength.

Wireless phones can compromise or totally kill the wireless network connection if on the same frequency.

You can add an external antenna to help boost the signal.

Looks like we have a bit of a race going on here! My roof went on weekend before last; last weekend I primered it - 30 freakin' gallons of the stuff! The water heater and associated plumbing went in last week, the electrical is being finished this weekend, and we're shooting for the rough frame inspection on Monday. This week I had to take an air chisel and cut through a 4' sidewalk to get to the house panel for the main run - fun! I'll insulate next week, and then have it sheet rocked the next weekend. My roll-up door is paid for but MIA. Oh, and I get to have the county come out and tear up the street for my sewer connection.

As far as the wireless goes I prefer Dlink and Netgear over linksys. Dlink sells omni directional antennas that boost signal strength.

I use a Dlink 802.11b (2.4 gigahertz) setup and also use 2.4 gigahertz phones (Siemens) never had any issues with cross talk or poor signal for either the phone or the network.

If you want higher speed go with a 802.11a or g setup. They offer 54mps on a 5 gigahertz frequency. My setup runs 22mps and unless I am running some intensive network games I have never needed more speed after all your ISP only puts out a max of 1.5mps (cable)

nice play house by the way

Actually, I already have that planned out. I'm going to string a cable from the corner of the bathroom to the back wall, and hang a sort of shower curtain to block off the workbenches. I'll then put the victim car on the lift to paint it - painting rockers will never have been so easy! I'm also installing a 1600CFM exhaust fan in the back of the garage.

Be advised....in my Air Pollution Inspector Weenie mode here....I see that you are in CA....

Most fire codes and APCD regs require no ignition sources....I saw a water heater there, the car(s) to be painted be registered to the owner of the house, only one complete can be done a year, no commercial painting can be done of parts, paint needs to comply with VOC restrictions and HVLP guns need be used.....of course if there are no complaints there will be no inspections....

The water heater is electric - does that count?

I only paint my own cars at home - when I do someone else's, I do it at their house.

Yup.

Put a hoop upstairs for the kids, the lift will be moved over to the right and a snooker table/ping pong table combo will be on the left....flat screen TV, stereo and computer station......

What are your dimensions?

What happens when theball goes over the railing?

What's that area to the right of the garage?

20x25.....the ball will bounce off of a siding cover over the area between the wall of the garage and the retaining wall, it's open on two sides....I am limitted to 500 square feet by the building code in my area. Once I get signed off.....I can cover that area and uh.....use it for storage......

It's about an extra 200 square feet.....

I was limited to 25x25 on mine. I have a 7' on one side and about 12' on the other that I'll probably pave and cover as 'storage'
