The 997 is due out in 2005 (I think). That leaves only 2 more models before Porsche has to think of new numbers! What's next? Will the next generations be names instead of numbers (Cayenne, Boxster)? I'm wondering if it's similar to a 'Y2K' thing in that they didn't realize they'd use up all the numbers to 999.
Thoughts? (Yup, killing time before quittin' time...not enough time to finish something, not worth starting something new)

they just flip the 999 over and introduce the 666. It will be a deviation from their racing heritage...maybe an SUV or something.
Oh wait... |

The Cayenne is a 955. There are unused non-sequential numbers still available. But the numbers seem to be relatively unimportant at this stage. The latest 40th anniversery 996 is simply badged the "911". The 997 will probably be badged the same.
