Original Fit Interiors Door Pockets
I bought a set of door pockets from Original Fit Interiors. True to the company's reputation, it took months for them to arrive. Then, the vinyl trim was the wrong color, and the carpet had contact cement on it. I sent them back, and it took months to have them returned. There was still glue on the carpet. I bought some lacquer thinner and cleaned the glue myself.
When I sent to install them, they were anything but the original fit. The fit sucks, frankly, and I can't seem to be able to get them to fit correctly no matter how many hours I put in. Every thread I've seen on Original Fit complains about timeliness, lack of responsiveness, lies about shipping dates, etc. etc. Why do we put up with this BS? Aren't there any better companies out there that can do the work at a reasonable price? I've got to say, I'm not impressed with the work, not impressed with the fit, and sure as heck not impressed with the turn-around time. There has got to be a better company out there!!! I'm at the point where I'm ready to toss the door pockets into the trash can. Does anyone else make fiberglass replacement pockets, already covered with carpet and vinyl trim? Thanks for your help, guys. (Sorry for the rant!) ![]()

AppBiz's latest price sheet lists bare pockets for $189 and carpet to cover them at $49. Their web site doesn't list them yet. Any upholstery shop can cover them easily, or you can do it yourself.

I remember the original thread on this a while back Scott. That's very bad service and not what I would expect of an American company. In the UK getting good straight secondhand pockets is a problem and the new ones are very expensive. I sourced some pockets from a very helpful guy on this board and although shipping was horrendously expensive they are good pocketsand it was still cheaper than buying from the UK. There is a slight difference in the fixing holes but I can work around that and recover them myself. Why don't you do what I did and go the used pockets route. Advertise here and at Rennlist and I'm sure you'll find some. Just be specific about what you want .
I might still have some emails from people offering me pockets if I have I'll send you them if you like , let me know. |

My post was earlier this year regarding John Hacker at Original Fit Interiors. His business operations leaves much to be desired as I have had lengthy discussions with him regarding his timeliness. He claims that he cannot find skilled labor and that he feels that in order to do the job correctly that he has to do it himself. He is inundated with orders as OFI seems to be the only outfit out there that will attempt to match materials, stitch and adhere the material to the fiberglass pocket. I sent him the skin from my original door pocket for him to match the carpet and vinyl trim. He did a good job with the colors on my tan/beige carpet. The fiberglass blank is for the later Carrera mounting method which eliminates the block of plastic at the hinge end of the door. After a month wait I did receive pockets that are pretty nice. Scott did you send John a sample of your carpet/vinyl for him to match? Colors do change over the years as well as dye lots and variations in material weave.

"Why do we put up with this BS?" -- These complaints have gone on for years. "We" put up with it, becasue we are too busy to file formal, written complaints with Consumer protection agencies, and because the guy usually does eventually deliver good quality. I note he has moved back and forth from Cal. to Oregon 2x. I did check the Court suit database in OR and he did not have any suits against him on it.
So.... my take is that He ought to tell people it will be a while, at minimum. But there are lots worse businesses that do lots worse things. When I get to this stage on my restore, I'll go with appbiz. |

BTDT...I have ranted about this stoner for years. Same results and same amount of frustration. He also conveniently waited to credit back my card for a month...when I called him for the 12th time and asked wtf? He said he was short on rent that month and didn't think I would mind.
The guy is not even worth discussion at this point. Webersport in California is 1 million times better qaulity wise and very timely. So the guy should be out of business soon...hopefully. If you want to know what I really think of the guy I can email you privately. -Jeff nolift911@hotmail.com |
