slicks on 7x9 Fuchs?

Without doing any more than rolling the front fender what size and what brand slicks are you guys using on a SC with 7 and 9, 16" Fuchs?

Do they run any smaller than a normal tire...or is the typical 205/245 como the choice?

I haven't found a 225/50/16 street tire I can run on the 7x16 Fuchs without rubbing. I don't want to buy a set of 8" 940 wheels.

I have SO3s on 17 Fikse but wanted a "play" tire for my 16" Fuchs.

I am willing to entertain any suggestions. Thanks for the help.

I take it you are really asking about DOT R-compound tires and not slicks? True race slicks in 16" only come in a few sizes, and they are all too wide to run on the front of a narrow body 911. 22x10-16 is the smallest Hoosier 16" slick, and it needs at least a 9" rim, and is happier on a 10". The smallest Goodyear is 23.5x10.5-16. If you go to a 15" rim in front, you can fit a 23x8-15 in the front on a 7" rim pretty easily.

225/50-16 DOT tires on a 7" rim should easily fit the front of an SC. Where do they rub on yours?

Thanks Tom, yes I was thinking of DOT race tires.

My front left won't take a 225 in the Bridgestone or the Goodyears with 7" Fuchs. I have found the SCs to be car specific when putting a 225 in the front.

So for DOT race tires what are you using for brand and sizes on an SC with 7/9x16 Fuchs?

I use Kumho Victoracers and Hoosier R3S03 radial DOT tires. However, I run 245/45-16 on 8" 951 Fuchs rims in the front of my '73RS clone. No rubbing except on full steering lock on the inside of the wheel against the tub. Fender lips are rolled. I run a 265 (Kumho) or 275 (Hoosier) /45-16 on 9" Fuchs in the rear.

The 7x16" wheel has the same 23mm offset as the 8" 951 wheel, so it should be easy to fit a 225/50-16 on it. There are lots of SC and Carreras running that setup out here. On the early cars ('73 and before), it's usually the rear that is hard to fit that size tire without the SC flares. The front is not a problem.

When I run slicks, I use the Goodyear G19 in 23x9-15 on the front and the 23.5x10.5-16 in the rear.

OK Jack, those tires fall into the "erotic" category. Bordering on pornographic. We have standards of decency on this board you know. :>)

Tom, what is the nomenclature for the slicks? Is it diameter x section width x rim diameter? Always wondered that.

Toyo RA1 in 205/245. I have not tried a 225 up front yet as, like you, I have heard its car specific. 205 is an easy fit. First track work out will be next week with this set up, if I understeer a little I'll play with tire pressures and the suspension to dial things in.
