Hi Guys,
The wheel is sold! Anyone have a 96/97 993 they want to sell me for 25K :-) bS |

I found a vendor who is selling a brand new embossed wheel for $375. They are calling it a genuine 930S wheel. I'm wondering if it's the real deal or a just a different reproduction and if that's a good price. -Anthony |
Anthony,
Who is this vendor, I would like one. Michael |
my dealer says that they sell original 930s steeringwheels - however - they are not embossed. (695 cdn. dollarettes). where does the black embossed wheel come from?
|
creaturecat -
I did get mine from my local dealer (they also advertise in Excellence) - see if yours will bring one in before you purchase. Mine did to make sure and yes, it was the embossed horn pad! Although, Anthony says he found a vender for $375 - I would take it! Others sell them for nearly $500 Good luck! bS |
Ok, I'm going to reveal my big secret. Ebay!
I found this dealer selling the embossed wheels. This is the only wheel on ebay now but they had four up this morning. The auctions must have ended. Search completed auctions and you will see them. In their ad they say "OK, we put the aftermarket version up for auction and everyone asked for a genuine one. Here you go. A genuine 930S steering wheel with hub included! The horn pad has the genuine crest embossed on it." It looks good in the pics: http://i20.ebayimg.com/03/i/01/97/b7/69_1.JPG http://i1.ebayimg.com/03/i/01/99/0c/e2_1_b.JPG BTW, I searched completed auctions and noticed that several wheels had sold for the minimum $355 bid. They also have some auctions where the bidding starts at $375. I just emailed them and offered them $350 including shipping and they said OK. I figure that without having to pay ebay fees they make out the same. |
81SCp,
What sizes are the fuchs? I remember you had some more recent wheels that looked like turbo twists on your car? |
I just won that ebay auction -- Turns out the seller started performance parts AND FVD, then sold them both and is on his third company -- partsdepot or something. Great business man, good guy on the phone, and a great entrepreneur -- but you'd think someone would have locked him into a noncompete when they bought one of his other businesses.
In any case, I'm going to install the 930S wheel in place of the 4-spoker on my carrera. If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them before, during, or after the process. Creature -- this is, we believe, the 968 Clubsport wheel. The thought is that it's the same frame as the 930S wheel, with a different horn pad. If anyone in metro NY or long island has a 930S crest pad, I'd be happy to do some comparisons, but even if they're the same and you have a 930S, but that still leaves the issue of actually finding the 968CS horn pad to do the install. Hope that helps. Yeah, it's a lot of money, but I'm psyched. |
just saw the 930s wheel on sale for $ 245.00 (without the crest )- thanks for the update - does he stock the porsche steering wheel or was that the last one? thank you
|
I believe they're in stock -- Anthony apparently bargained them down to $350, and that was my next step if the auction didn't pan out.
If they are the same wheel (I think they are), the shells are definitely available. The embossed horn pad is the hard part to find. Where did you find the wheel for $245? |
AJ USA has the wheel - special rennlist pr.(sorry wayne)

Guys,
If any of you have Porsche PET (like I do), look in the techquipment section as there are a couple of factory sport wheels available especially for the '80's 911's that are much nicer (albeit more expensive) than the repro wheels sold in the aftermarket. I got one for my '88 and it is really, really nice. They look almost identical to the 968CS wheel that was shown in a couple of posts but they are specifically for the 911's. It comes complete with hub ready to bolt on in about 10 minutes. The Porsche part number is 000.043.161.00 and the color code is 8YR (black). They do have other color codes as well. They sell from your Porsche dealer in the $420.00 range retail. I paid $365 wholesale. Porsche usually only keeps 2-3 in the country so it might be slim pickings. I'll try and take some pics and post them in the morning if anyone is interested. The repro wheels just look kind of cheesy compared to the factory sport wheels but I admit just about anything is better than the original 4-spoke tractor wheel!!! Sorry if I said the same thing as someone else, I didn't want to wade through 5 pages. Ralph P.S. - Feel free to PM me if you would like me to research the part numbers and color codes again on PET. I did all of my own research on this about a year ago before I learned of this board. I'm just glad I got the wheel I wanted because it was special order and thus non-returnable! |

Wayne--how 'bout a Pelican sale on this product? Mike |
Hmm. My part # is 000.044.161.00 - it includes the hub, and supposedly bolts right into a 911. Maybe the 43 # is for the wheel and hub combo specifically for the 911? I'm not sure what the difference would be.
Mine was $360 plus shipping (no tax coming from CA) for a total of $372. |
does the 043 have the crest? could you post a picture carrerra 3.5L?
|
I just installed mine that I picked up from the dealer. The quality over the "other ones" that are sold is night and day. Once piece of leather and the embossed crest with horn insignia is very nice.
The cost is about the same for the original vs the cheesy knock off - no brainer. -Jeff nolift911@hotmail.com |
It's still not clear to me how much different the AJUSA/Pelican 930s wheel will be to the embossed wheel I just bought. The embossed wheels look they have a matte finish and the others look to have a shinier finish. I guess I'll find out in a couple days.

Okay, I took some pics of my wheel (Porsche Tequipment part number 000.043.161.00) this morning, here it is:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092241179.jpg Here is a close-up (albeit a bit fuzzy) of just the horn pad/crest: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092241229.jpg Finally, a view of the side showing the hub adaptor: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092241268.jpg Again, the wheel comes complete ready to bolt-on. Took me about 10 minutes to make the swap. The aftermarket repro "930S" wheels do not compare to the factory quality of these wheels. It is one of the best mods I've done. While "original" for the car, the stock wheel is a piece of crap IMO. I took the liberty of going through PET again and here are the part numbers and color codes for all of the non-airbag sport wheels offered through Tequipment. They will all look similar, the difference being the hub needed for the particular application: 968 347 084 00 85-91 944/951 & 91-95 968/CS 7JX - Blue 7LD - Burgundy 8YR - Black 000 043 161 00 -89 911 7JX - Blue 7LD - Burgundy 8YR - Black 000 043 162 00 89-94 C2/C4, RS, Speedster 9YL - Cobalt Blue 6XL - Classic Gray 6YL - Magenta 7JX - Blue 8YR - Black 7LD - Burgundy 000 043 163 00 928S, S4, GT 9YL - Cobalt Blue 6XL - Classic Gray 6YL - Magenta 7JX - Blue 8YR - Black 7LD - Burgundy Please note again that the above are only NON-AIRBAG sport wheels. Tequipment has quite a few sport wheel options listed as well for later models equipped with airbags. Doesn't seem relevant though for this particular thread. Hope the info is of use to you! Ralph |
Carrera3.5L:
This information is exactly what I was looking for - thanks! One question. What is PET? Where did you order, cost, delivery time? |
Yeah,
Where did you order, there is going to be a rush on this product. Michael |
Hi Guys,
I just thought it funny that I posted pics and the exact part number on page two and three of this very thread.....Carrera3.5L is very correct! These are great wheels! bS |

Porsche PET is the internal parts CD-ROM that provides descriptions, part numbers and images for all Porsche models. You can't buy it (I don't think), but Porsche dealers, Porsche repair shops and some aftermarket companies can get hold of it. I work in the industry and thus have a copy. It is a lifesaver rather than trying to rely on the guy behind the parts counter at the dealer who can't differentiate a 911 from a 928. Any Porsche dealer can get you the sport wheel, all you have to do is provide them the part number and pay the price. Hopefully, they still have some stock in the country as when I got mine in May 2003 they only had a few. The dealer does not stock them, they are special order, but if there is supply at one of the Porsche parts warehouses (there is one here locally in Ontario, CA as well as Atlanta, GA) it only takes a day or two. They're not cheap but worth it. Ralph |

I just spoke to the local dealer, there are none in the US, only 9 in Germany and the price was $689, I think I will pass.

No apologies or credit needed :) I just thought it was funny! I love this board and I am sorry that I will not be that much a part of it anymore. Since my PCar was totaled - I am thinking of trying something else for awhile - Mercedes E430! I have to wait until my 96/97 993 becomes available to me. bS |
73911 -- go to the ebay link on the previous page, and call them. They had one in as of this morning, when they shipped it to me. Let us know what they say.

WOW! That is absolutely crazy! I realize the exchange rate with the Euro has gotten worse since I bought mine in May 2003, but $300 more??? It's almost twice as much. I think that those 9 will probably be staying in Germany, eh? Bummer for you guys that want one, but I sure am glad that I got mine when I did. I swallowed hard paying the $365, I wouldn't pay almost $700, that's for sure!!! Hopefully you guys can find them through other Porsche distribution channels. They really are nice and more classy looking than the repro wheels that others are selling. Try calling a couple of other dealers just for kicks. It doesn't make sense (much like airfare pricing), but dealer prices are NOT the same across the board. There is one dealer in Oregon (can't remember the name, Sunset?) who advertises in Excellence at dealer cost plus either 10% or 15% (can't remember which). That is probably the best price you will get from a Porsche dealer here in the US. Ralph |
Ralph,
You are correct on all accounts - I live in Portland and that's where I got mine. I just called Bob the parts manager - they are available for $380 and change, but the have to be brought in from Germany (like mine did). bS |
another price!! 569 cdn. (works out to 429 U.S.) from my Porsche dealer.
|
I got mine from Sunset. Paid $380.32 plus shipping. I ordered it July 20 and they shipped July 26.
It does have a matte finish. It must have shipped from a wharehouse in the U.S. |
OK, this is getting confusing. Or I am just punchy from lack of sleep...
Neverless, can someone answer these questions? - What part # (w/hub) fits an 87. Black wheel - Is the wheel on eBay the same as the one from Sunset? - How about the AJ USA? Is the OEM or a replica? Make the madness stop!!! :) |
Webini-
1) 000.043.161.00 and the color code is 8YR (black). 2) yes- EBAY wheel is the one sold by the dealer. 3) AJusa's wheel is a replica for $248 w/ hub and plain horn pad.(via Rennlist website) Hopes this stops your madness! |
Thanks!
Now shifting to a different madness. Buying a $350 steering wheel! |

Believe me, the factory tequipment wheel will make a huge difference, both aesthetically as well as the feel when driving the car. In this case, you cannot beat the factory quality that Porsche provided. I've had mine for over a year now and get asked quite frequently by other P-car owners where I got the wheel. Most are surprised that it came direct from Porsche! Throw the old 4-spoke in the garage and put it back on when selling the car. Enjoy Ralph |
FWIW, this is the real 930S wheel from Porsche Special Wish Program for early to mid 80's 911-930. Special thanks to GeorgeK

My wheel arrived today. AWESOME!!! This is the real deal. Came in a Porsche box and everything. IMO it's well worth the money over the reproduction. I love the pebble grain finish on the leather.

Made in Italy?
|
Hey, Porsche at least knows the right place to source their leather products from.
|
haha, true that. I can't wait to get mine. The word was tuesday or wednesday.
|
Jgordon,
I bought the AJ 930s wheel, thinking it was the real deal and GeorgeK set me straight. The REAL 930S 2nd generation wheel the only way to go for that style. When you put them side by side it's an amazing difference. Another wheel that has caught my eye is the fat rimmed 3 spoke standard Porsche wheel. I had Autos Intl. recover it and it's really nice. They seem to getting harder to come by these days. Regards, J.P. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092372742.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092372765.jpg |
