avatar size
wayne, how about increasing the avatar size to 100x100, up from 50x50? they would still fit nicely in the space, but then you could tell what they are. www.thesamba.com, a vw site, does it that way, and it looks to be the same web design as yours.

I agree too 50 x 50 is just too small - I need to express myself!

I agree that the avatar size would be better at 100 x 100. But, even at 50 x 50, I don't think too many other people would ever mistake a '58 Plymouth Fury for a '49 Roadmaster. Although I'm a little partial to '52's... ![]() Tim ![]() |

Nope. No way. The other sites that have large avatars and allow large pictures consume large amounts of server resources, and make the whole site load slower, expecially for modem users. 100x100 quadruples the size of the image, adding about 3-4 KB per increased avatar. That's a full extra second per avatar on each page for modem users. If a thread has 25 posts on it, then that's an extra 25 seconds for the page to load for the modem users.
I think I've done a pretty good job managing the resources and speed of the site - I'm not going to do anything to mess that up, like I've seen on other sites... -Wayne

Thanks from a dial upper!
Although I like the idea; I really enjoy the speed of this BBS compared to others. Now then, in a couple of weeks I'm moving and then I'll be on high speed connection; then I'll say screw all those dial up modem users! Hah ha, just kidding. Did my Pelican Parts Christmas shopping yesterday; got a bunch of Porsche stuff on the way..... way cool.

Kind of like form following function.
Those other sites are so overpowering. The post intent is gobbled up by the visual to the left. Or very, very long signatures. bleh! When a sig takes up a page, its hard for me to focus on what is being said.
