Does Blaupunkt make an MP3 player now? At the time I installed my Pioneer, they did not have one avail.
I like the 'stock' look of the Blaupunkt's

I put a Blaupunkt Heidelberg (CD51) in my 84. Nice unit, great sound, and not too much "bling, bling." I also bought the optional steering wheel remote control for convenience. The Heidelberg is very conservative looking, and goes nicely with the simple Carrera interior. I paid about $200, but they're much less now. You won't be disappointed.

Paul: I don't have any pics, sorry. And, I just did an internet search. The CD51 Heidelberg has been discontinued. The CD52 Heidelberg has more "bling" to it.

Some Alpine units still use knob. I'm not a fan of Blaupunkt.

bell likes the Blau stuff. He once posted that there is a difference between the low $ Blau and the higher $ Blau's in quality

I got the Blaupunkt Nevada in 2000 for my 944. I liked how shapes on the face echoed the shapes on the dash. When I got the 911, I pulled the Pioneer (probably a better unit) from it and put the Blaupunkt in because I hated all the blinky lights and the silver color of the unit.
I just looked at the BP website and was shocked at all the tasteless 'bling' that their new models have. All those stupid flashing graphics tell you nothnig, and are very distracting. The philosophy behind this kind of crap is utterly antithetical to the philosophy behind the 911 design. I think this one looks as if it belongs there. ![]()

Doesn't matter too much as long as it matches what you want it to. The only thing (and it's probably more of a Randy P pet peeve) is that if you have a power antenna on your car, choose a deck that has a dedicated antenna control lead - not one that also serves as an amp remote on.
In other words, when you're listening to CD's your antenna isn't sticking out. Alpine and Sony are such animals (but Sony is junk IMHO- which leaves Alpine) just my $.02 rjp

The problem with Blaupunkt MP3 headunits is that if you stop the car half way through a song, instead of starting back at that point that it stopped at...it starts from the beginning of the track again. Bloody annoying! You will find that there are a few other brands like that too, so be aware. The Rockford Fosgate units are nice and Pioneer have some good MP3/WMA players.
