Instant on Radar...
69 in a 45. V1 barely blipped. And I already have a 12 hour 'problem driver' traffic school this weekend.
Everyone told me this car would cost me but geez...

2 words- ticket lawyer
It sucks to have to get one, but they are usually less than $100. Disclaimer to all those opposed to ticket lawyers- If Todd were guilty of some horrendous traffic violation, I wouldn't have mentioned the ticket lawyer, but since this is all about "revenue enhancement", I say fight the system.

I'm suprised you were not arrested. Usually 25 over the posted, you go to jail. What was the other ticket that you are already scheduled for?
I keep thinking of somebody doing 69 (24 over) on the street in front of my house where the speed limit is 45. Would it have attracted my attention while I was getting in my car? YES. Would it have bothered me if someones' kids were playing in their front yard next door? YES. Sorry, you are supposed to learn from your mistakes (tickets). However it turns out, I am reasonably sure you will learn from this. Good Luck.

Well, to clarify:
"Problem driver" is Orange County's way of saying "you have already been to traffic school (for 8 hours) in the last 16 months, so if you want this ticket off your record as well you have to go to EXTRA LONG traffic school." Orange is kind of a racket as the traffic school is in bed with the county and you can't do online or out of county etc. The nice judge who heard my case decided that since I didn't live in Orange I could attend out of county, though not online. Fair enough. That was a p-car ticket as well. The ol' pick the Porsche out of the pack of cars doing 70 in a 55 deal. Hey, I broke the law so what can I say? Although I don't think it was really 69 this morning, he did get me fair and square. It was about 5:30 this morning and I was on my way to the donut shop (hadn't even had my coffee) and was just cruising, you know, concerned more with actually driving than what the speedo is reading. There are no other cars on the road, typical quiet Ventura morning. I'm in the pinnacle of automotive engineering, an 89 911 Turbo, and 69 is perfectly reasonable for that road at that time. However, 69 IS in fact, 24 miles over the 45 limit and therefore I was cited. My wife said "if you would have been in the [Toyota Land] Cruiser, you wouldn't have been cited" and she is right. I wouldn't have been doing that speed on that road in that vehicle. It's revenue generation, no doubt, but the fact remains; the rules said "45" and I was doing 69. Sure as heck won't stop me from fighting it though! So, where does one find a good 'ticket lawyer', in the phone book?

The very first day I drove my Porsche I got a ticket for doing 36 in a 15 zone. The street was clearly marked with a 30 mph sign and my speedo indicated 29. Checked my speedo afterward and it was dead on. First ticket in over 25 years.

TimT, I wouldn't advise him to get a ticket lawyer if tickets didn't raise insurance rates, but they do. I have never needed to use one, but my brother has on MANY occasions. You just pay the lawyer about $75 (in Dallas) and show up in court. They handle all the pleas and usually get you off on either a lessor charge that isn't a moving violation or get you off completely. It is rather painless.

OK I still dont understand it...
You will pay someone $75, (dont know of any lawyer that works that cheap) AND you have to show up with the lawyer, then plea to a lesser charge. How much do you really save? a few bucks? Is it really worth your time? He admits to going 69 in a 45!!!! pay up and quit ******in Actually I dont give a crap if he hires the most expensive defense team to plea him down from something he admits to doing. Why not just pay the tickets, swallow the pride, then perhaps obey the law for a change??

I'll follow the fastest car about 1/4 mi behind.. The V-1 sings, foot of gas, point man eaten by the hungry bear. sometimes on a big ride it'll happen 4 or 5 times a week.. except on I-75 from the Fla border to Orlando.. that ride is worth 2 or 3 bear meals. ........Ron

I certainly ain't b!tching about the fact I got nailed. I did it, I got caught, now I have to deal with it.
I would much prefer however to pay $75, save maybe $100 or $150 in fines and avoid the 3 years of premium increase on my insurance. I'm still paying but a) not as much and b) to a lawyer, better than to the 'new laser gun' crew that cited me. If I'm complaining it's 'cause it stinks to get caught, not becuase I think I was treated unfairly by the law or the system. It was Ka, BTW. V1 barely got a chirp out. Although we have RAMPANT red light camera enforcement, I have yet to see laser in town. Also, as far as the V1's useful life, I'd have predicted that driving itself would have been outlawed by now. It's inherently dangerous and detrimental to the environment, as well as being terribly inefficient at moving a lot of people around. 'They' will keep coming up with new ways of catching us breaking the law. I worked to get my p-car before the gummint clamped down and outlawed the darn things. I knew the V1 was a rapidly depreciating asset when I bought it 3 years ago. With wider proliferation of instant on and laser you'll find that it's not that it doesn't detect one or two traps, but that you can't trust it once you know it will miss one or two traps... Long post, esp. for the 'Post Quick Reply' box!

i hope the v1 isn't on its last legs, i've got a led food and all of its little chirps and beeps reminds me to check my speed! |

Speaking of revenue enhancement, the Oregon legislature admitted that when they passed the higher fines with a "no reduce" clause (to keep all those judges from cutting fines to get people to get insurance."

I've never been stopped in my 911 but just got bagged in my truck while towing a camper. Go figure. Bottom line is, if you dance you must pay the piper.

Hey TimT don't know about your state but her in NC a ticket for 15 over will increase your insurance rates by at least 20% for three years. I have heard of increases as high as 45% if you have previous points.
So if you take what I pay a year $1200 (three cars) increase that by 20% that is $240 a year. So the lawyer cost is paid for in 1 year and the state still gets their tax. Oh and in NC if you are 15 over the officer can take your license on the spot and also take you to jail. So Fight the ticket.
