What's with the engine? Is it a 3.2? Why does the ad mention CIS pistons? Odd...

I wasn't flaming you, but it seems odd that a car built from the tub up would have CIS pistons. The engine is a large factor in that car's worth.

....The motor was a recent swap from another car...
I'm new to the Porsche scene but have been reading as much as I can to come up to speed (mainly this BB) on these cars. I've been racing Mustangs (Autocross, Solo 1, hillclimbs)for the last few years and always wanted a 911 and was finally convinced when I drove my buddies 82 SC with a 3.2L conversion and came within 1 second of his time the first time out in his car. I scared him so he told me go get my own... ![]() Just out of curiosity, what's odd about running these pistons in this motor ?? I'm looking to learn from you guys..... ![]() P Hungry for Porsche Knowledge |

You need to get a very thorough PPI on a car like this. A lot of the components could be worn-out junk, or really good stuff.
The shop that does the PPI might be able to come up with a ballpark figure on what it's worth. Do you mind saying what the seller is asking for it?

The car will be going to John Walker for a PPI..I've heard good things about him
The asking price is $25,000...The car is in good shape and pulls very strongly (Drove it this past w/end) The owner have been very good with the maintenance and is known to be very picky about his cars.. Here's a few things that I saw that needs attention: Will need a hood/front spoiler respay because of rock chips, speedometer does not work, need new front rotors and possibly a transmission rebuild. John Walker or one of the engine rebuild gurus will know better than I, but I wasn't aware of any combo of internal parts that could be used with CIS pistons (98mm max) to build a 3.2. But hey..what do I know compared to JW or Wayne..nada!
Seems like someone who goes to the trouble of shuffle pinning and boattailing a case would have used better pistons. That's why it's fishy to me. Suspension sounds decent. Brake combo is unusual and could be much improved, but that on is for Bill V. Now if you wait a few mouths, there may be a Max Moritz 3.2 powered early car, with Johnson's Motorsport suspension up for sale, but that's not up to me. A JW PPI is a good move. |

Well, it sure photographs nice. I'd plan on replacing the 15-inch wheels at some point in the future. The supply of decent tires is drying up.
John Walker is one of the best. Maybe he'll sound in here.

What do you intend to do with the car? As a daily driver, the suspension might be a little brutal and its ventilation a challenge. Does it have heat exchangers or headers? It is almost too nice to track and probably will be classed uncompetitive in PCA Club racing specs. What you going do with it besides have a blast with it in twisties.

CanuckRS.
I sold my RS clone to a friend two years ago. He is now thinking about selling it. It is in Vancover, BC. I owned the car for 19 years. Email me if serious and I will send you more details. poorsha@shaw.ca

This car will be used mainly for Autocross, Track Days and Hillclimbs and my summer toy. I believe that cars like these need to be driven and trust me, it will be driven the way it was intended to be..
![]() The ride is not too bad on the streets and I'm used to stiffly sprung cars anyways I will get another set of wheels for competition should I buy it..already have a list of upgrades that I would do to make it mine...here goes that slippery slope... So what do you guys think this thing is worth ?? P |
