Changing 911 Brake Pads???
I know this is a silly question and Im having problems searching this site, IS ther help on this site with regards to Changing your Front & Rear Brake Pads??? Im sure there is . I have a 86 911 Carrara Cab..... How do you push the fluid back in the Master Cyl. so you can get the new pads on?? On my old Mustangs I use to use a "C" clamp with the Master Cyl. Top off and slowly close the piston and force the fluid back in the master cyl. so you dont have to bleed them.....but This is a Porsche and I wasnt sure if you can do that. I looked at my Master Cyl. and WHOA !!!! Is that mutha huge !! Anyway thanks for your help.....again..

I take a big screwdriver and carefully pry the pads away from the rotor by the little tabs, enough to pull out the old pad. Assembly is just the reverse. It really is pretty easy. If you don't push the pad back far rnough to get the new pad in, just use the same screwdriver to do it. Just watch the reservoir to make sure all the fluid doesn't overflow anywhere bad.

As an alternative you can loosen the bleed screw and then push the piston back. The advantage of this is you do not risk getting brake fluid all over your trunk. Are you also going to flush your break system at this time?? I woul highly reccommend that you do so.

I like using a chunk of wood to press the pistons back. More forgiving than a screw driver.

Be careful w/ a screw driver on the piston faces. It's very easy to go through them.

The C-clamp trick will work, however I use a wood shim and large pair of channel locks. As long as you remove the cap on the master and have enough room in the reservoir, any combination of prying tools will work. Just be DAMN CAREFUL not to cause any damage to the piston.

Some people will take some fluid out of the master with a large syringe or a turkey baster. Then put the fluid back when you are finished. This prevents overflow.

Thanks everyone. The job went over very easy. I need my brake light switch changed so I will have my mechanic change out the fluid and do the switch, but I didnt want to go any longer on the old pads. As always everone was very helpful. thanks !
