Anyone used Phase 9 mufflers?
Hey all, I'm looking at some Phase 9 mufflers to complete a custom exhaust I'm working on. Has anyone used these? I'll be putting them on my 3.2 PCA Club Racing car and wanted to get some feedback regarding, longevity, effectiveness and Db readings( I have to pass 89Db for Limerock). Thanks in advance!
Cheers, James

no way they will meet 89Dbs. Lots of cars in the PRC user them and they are loud.
I don't know about perf. Jim

Thanks alot for the response Jim, I know SCCA has a 95Db limit and I'm looking for a muffler that will meet the 89Db limit. I know I'm asking alot but I'm tired of changing mufflers back and forth for different tracks. I have heard good things about the Coast mufflers, have you had any experience with them?
Cheers, James

I think Drew Brown had a set on his SC, you might ask Jacobs about that. The phase 9's are the ones that look like big metal bread boxes, right?
Why don't you put some headers on with megaphones/cookie cutters so you can really honk on it at the right tracks. Then get a sport muffler that mounts up to the headers with a SIDE outlet that aims away from the dB meter at Summit and LRP. Three bolts on the flanges and a couple holding the brace and you're there! SCCA? Don't let those guys bump your pretty black car.

you could put in a cut out -- connect it to the throttle cable.

Phase 9 also has a matching cross chamber (optional) which I believe meets 89 db

I have seen the Coast Fab mufflers and they are very well made, but I doubt you could get below 90 db with them alone, either, without short-shifting past the sound meter, which is what some people have to do at Laguna Seca. TT

Once again, Thanks for all the responses. I think my first problem is that no really good setup exists for the 3.2 engines as far as racing goes( S-Car-Go makes a heder for big $$$). I don't know if headers w/megaphones is the right answer since my car has the motronic FI. I also have a feeling that 1 5/8" headers are a bit too big for reasons stated above. Can anyone shed any light on this area?
Cheers, James

I had a set on my 2.7MFI motor, and they were really throaty. I never raced at any really strict dB tracks, so I'm not sure about them meeting the noise requirements. I remember blasting under the bridges at Road America, and they did sound good. Also they are really light, so you're removing weight in the right place. I eventually sold them and am using a heavier twin pipe sport exhaust that has a great sound itself and meets the dB requirements at any track.

I know a couple of guys that run the Coasts in PCA, one in an RSR the other in a C2. Neither has had any issues at LimeRock.
1 5/8" OD which is 1 1/2" ID is a good size for 3.2 headers. For reference ssi are 1 1/2"OD/1 3/8"ID The mild cam timing really inhibits the effectiveness of header tuning. Doesn't hurt but doesn't help as much as it might.

for my 3.2 I have the bursch headers and a banana muffler 2 into 1, where I welded up the factory hole and added two sport exhaust pipes out the center. Seems to work fine, again not 89Db capable, but cheap.

To pass noise at LRP with phase 9s youll need the quiet can to go with them. Ive seem people with coasts or burns mufflers get the black flag at LRP on some days, on other days they pass. Must be something to do with atmospheric conditions etc.
Last time I was at LRP I ran my 3.2 914 with supercraps with 9 discs... and I passed.
