Ragamuffin goes for a ride.
Just about 2 months to the day that this car was dropped off the truck in front of my house after being shipped from Kentucky, it hit the road today.
When I bought the car, I knew it was a project and it really is. I decided to get it running before any serious dismanteling. The brake calipers were frozen and the hoses were swollen shut. The gas tank was nothing but rust. The MFI butterflies were frozen shut and the soft fuel lines were cracked. The shifter wiggled freely as tthe bushings were laying broken in the tunnel. And the car had a Carrera tail and a mid year bumper on the back. You get the picture. So far, there are used parts on the car to return it to more or less stock from no less than 7 Pelicans and a couple of non Pelicans. There are many new parts as well, mostly from Pelican Parts. I had driven it the first time a couple of weeks ago and it still needed a lot more work including a major tune up. Well, today, after a cautious run up and down the feeway, I headed for the hills, Triple A card at the ready. A two hour run and all is well. Needs a ton of cosmetic work, but it joins the ranks of the living, breathing 911's. The pic is a little fuzzy on purpose. Makes the car look better thatn it is. I'm going to call it the "Ragamuffin."

Ha, she looks good, and the white front spoiler gives it a cheeky grin.

Damn! I wish I was closer to you Milt. It makes me very happy to see a 911 coming back to life.
I don't know if you could lead me to another post to answer this, but how did you come by a car from kentucky? I thought 90% were in L.A. already. Or at least 87%

How did I come by a car from KY? Mike, take a look at this thread back in June. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/116965-new-looking-help.html#post863368
I responded to the guy via email and offered to buy it. Done deal, just like that. Of course, I took a HUGE gamble. A Pelican in KY did an inspection for me as a favor. (I owe him on that for sure). Sent the money and had the car shipped, which is another very interesting story. Didn't actually see the car for over 2 months after sending the check. I probably got a lot more grey hair over the summer, LOL. |
