New and Looking for help

Hi!

I'm new to this forum and the Porsche world (done a couple of fiat restorations, as well as a wooden boat). Now I have a new project - a 911S. I inhertited this car, my goal is to get it drivable and enjoy it, possibly sell it. There is a little rust on the doors, but everything else is OK, so if it runs it should be a nice driver.

The car sat in a driveway for about 5 years so I have lots of potentially failed systems to deal with. So my questions are around the steps/things to look for in bringing it back to life. Here's a run-down of my observations and questions:

Fuel System:
-I've already started cleaning out the fuel system (remove tank & clean, replace filter, etc)
-There wasn't any water in the old fuel, but it was pretty foul
-My research shows the MFI to be pretty fussy - what should I do to it

Electrical system:
Battery replacement

Brakes
-No fluid in resevior - probably need a new Master Cylinder
-Car still rolls - think the wheel calipers have survived? What about parts resources?

Oil
-Change it
-Anything else?

OK, comments/suggestions please
Thanks for your help

Here's the specs on the car
Year: 1972
Model: 911S - MFI

PS - if this car just floats your boat, send me an e-mail and let's discuss a sale

Sounds like a fun project with a desirable car, but if you don't have the time to do it, then sell it. If it were in my garage, I'd spend evenings going through the various critical systems. I'd remove, disassemble, clean, rebuild the calipers and MC. With fresh gas in a clean tank, I'd spin the engine a bunch of times with fresh oil and perhaps just fire it up. Before driving it very far, I'd also repack the wheel bearings, and CV joints.

Welcome to the board. Lots of people out there would love to have a 72' S! I believe your car has the oil filler thingy behind the passenger door. Good luck with the project. Be sure and post some pics. Use the search functions, you will be surprised at the amount of info in the archives.

I can see the similarity between the Fiat and the wooden boat!

Yes change the oil and gas and renew the fluid and bleed the brake system. I also agree with the wheel bearing repack. Get it to start before you even go near the MFI which is NOT for the faint of heart. Once you get it to start and stop then reappraise the situation as to wether or not you want to move on. If then you decide to sell it you can at least say it runs and stops and you know what it needs. It may bring better $$ too.

Targa911s:
I'm glad you can see the similarity in the Fiat and the boat - I'm still trying to figure that out. You pretty much outlined my plan (thanks for the confirmation)

One is a boat. The other, well, it's the anchor!

I went Alfa and partially wooden boat... Then a bigger sailboat. I agree with Targa911s. you can always replace the softlines in the brake system pretty easily and go from there. If you are interested in selling the S drop me a line - Targa911s also know I'm a sucker for the longhoods.

What kind of wooden boat? My friend was doing some summer work and a little old lady said, "can you clean my boat house?" He said, "sure, what should I do with the boat?" She replies, "oh, if you are able to get it out of there it's yours...it's probably a fire hazard."

Jeremy:
The more I think about it, the more selling it seems right. I'm not quite in the right spot in my life (recovering from a divorce) to work on a car. Drop me a note if you are interested.

I'm looking more for a Targa S - signal orange, viper green or silver and this is more of a long term search... I didn't see it was a coupe until later in the game. I'm sure he'll have plenty of interest. Good luck cpc3090
