Question Will 2002-993 drive-train & brakes drop into a 74-911 easily?

I’m thinking of biding on a totaled 2002 993 in a month. The car is a mess, but the drive train and brakes seem intact.

1-Will the 6spd fit in my 74-911 coupe?

2- Will the brakes go on fairly easily? Has there been much improvements in the brakes from the 74 disks too 2002 disks?

3- If I’m not wrong the engine is a 3.6. What about the engine. Will it drop in okay? I know you may laugh at this but, I’d love to put my Weber carbs on the 3.6 and extend the height and duration on the cam. I’m having a hell of a time finding info on 2002 993 engines. Would this 3.6 liter + cams + carbs + 1974 high flow exhaust work? Do you foresee any problems? I not sure if this will work because I believe the 2002 993’s have a variable cam technology similar to the Honda V-Tec. I want to know what I’m in for before I start biding on the car.

Any info would be great thanx

2002 = 996.

993 = 1995 to 1998

Assuming you mean a 993 and not 2002, the tranny will take a lot of fab to fit (it's longer).

Brakes are significantly better, fit well, but will need wheels that clear the big calipers.

993 do not have variable cam timing, but something called Varioram which is an intake length modification.

If it really is a 2002 911, you realize it is water cooled?

If it's a 2002 car, then the answers is no. It's a watercooled engine with a significantly different configuration than the air-cooled models. If it's a 993, which would mean the car is a 1994-1998 model, with an air-cooled engine and round headlights, then the motor is swapable, but the transaxle will be a big pain and require some significant cutting and fabrication.

Thanx Don

Rims Shouldn’t be an issue as I have 17” turbo twists. So they are 996’s after 1998, learn something new every day LOL. Looks like I’ll have to get my facts straight if it is a 996 or 993 =)

A 993 motor will mate to your 915, with a notch cut in the tranny (for the DME sensor) and a different flywheel. A 996 motor is a whole different animal.
