Cool my porsche's new roomie?

My wife has been looking very closely at a Jag S-Type. Either a 2000 or 2001. I know nothing about them except that the window regulators were replaced as an "in service".

If any of you have personal observations or knowledge of what to look for/ask about, please e-mail me or PM me.

I got one.

Thanks for your help.

If you need a four door how about the Crown Victoria with the P 74 package aka Police Pursuit. Big and Fast with HD everything. Steve

I would take a long hard look at an LS400/430 with the handling package.

The only problem with a used Lexus over a used Jag is that the market values used Lexi, and they are priced accordingly.

The prices for used Jags (particularly those coming off lease, like the 2000 to 2001 model years) are shockingly low. You can buy good late model S and XJs for the low 20s all day.

Last Spring I was looking to upgrade my daily driver and was interested in the Jag. After a mild test drive the guage cluster was lit up like a x-mas tree with all kinds of malfunction errors. I also had a hard time getting used to the ride / feel of the car so I turned my attention elsewhere.

Ultimately I wound up with an '01 MB C240 and have enjoyed it thoroughly over the past 6 months. Mine actually has the tiptronic tranny so sometimes I get to have a little fun on the way to the office

Good luck with your search.

THe S-type isn't really a Jag you know... it's a Ford. Plus do you really want to go through the insanity of owning an english car... positive grounded batteries, engines that turn the wrong way... electricals from hell... granted I know nothing about their newer stuff, but it takes a masochist to like working on english cars.

The S does use something like 40% Ford parts, so it is true that in no small part it isa Ford.

That, and the fact that it looks like a Taurus with a funny grille.

I represent several Jaguar dealerships - they are having a hard time moving cars, even here in So. Cal. The sales numbers are very, very surprising - on the low side. Most of the blame is put on what most in the auto industry consider a poor product line. The X type is viewed by most as nothing more than a gussied up Ford. The public knows it and seems to not like it. The S suffers from that, too, and the XJ, even the brand new one, is viewed as hopelessly dated (ironically, the new XJ is fairly technically advanced, but that's all below the surface).

It seems to be a confused product line that does not appeal to many anymore.

If you must get an S-Type, ask for the type R. Don't worry, you'll thank me later.
