Rear End is Up And Ready For The Drop!

I feel like a little kid on X-mas eve knowing that my engine is coming out in the morning! How will I ever be able to sleep tonight

The rear end is about 37" off the ground (might have to come down a little), the oil is out and the rear sway bar is off.

There should be about 10 NoVa / Pelican Heads coming over to help, watch, BS and bench race so it should be quite a day tomorrow.

Pictures will be posted tomorrow night of all the fun

Man if you can't sleep over the excitement of pulling it, just wait until you put it back in

Doug, you just don't know how lucky you are to have some friends that are in the know about Porsches. I live in a little town in central Georgia and I am the only one who has ever had a had a Porsche. My rear is in the air and I hope to give my son a crash course so we can drop on Sunday. Good luck on yours.

You could be in Wyoming where people ask what kind of car is that?
I'm the only one in this town (I think) that has ever pulled a motor in a Porsche. Try getting help here.

Doug, you have good reason to be excited. It's the beginning of a lot of adventure (if not fun). Best wishes.
I will always be grateful for my friends who helped me last year with the Blue Bomber's engine re & re. (You know who you are...thanks fellows!)

More engines dropping over there than rain in Vancouver. You NoVa guys must hold some kinda record or something (possibly measured in vertical feet of descent) ????

Good Luck

Doug,

Just checked the NoVA board, looks like you should have a good turn out today.

I haven't been checking the NoVA board lately, kicking myself in the butt for missing this one.

Doug, are you going to pull the engine and tranny or just the engine. I am leaning toward both as I cant locate the last barrel nut over the starter. Do you recommend both or just the engine for a clutch job?

Sam:

Pull them both at the same time. It makes working on the clutch internals much easier. Then when it is time to put the motor back on you won't be trying to get the input shaft to line up with clutch splines while trying to lift the engine square to the shaft.

SICK 5 year old . . . should be at the engine drop rather than posting here

Marc, sorry to hear that your protege is under the weather. We had lots of help and the engine/transaxle were out in a few hours. And, Marc, you missed the precision application of the BFSledgehammer (the same one we used on Doug's front suspension project) to free the hard oil line. Heck, I think we scared that dang fitting loose!

Well gentleman she is out and on the stand!

After doing some light prep work last night I got started in earnest around 8:30 this morning and everyone started showing up right at 9 am. By 11:45 the tranny had been separated and the engine was on the Porsche yoke on the stand.

A special thanks goes to the 10 NoVa / Pelicanheads that showed up today to assist. We had a great team and although we didn't break the record nothing was lost or broken.

I'm going to adding pics to the gallery on the NoVa board so I'll post a link later once I'm done.

BTW, now that the easy part is over the real project (ie., teardown) begins, right ?
