Got new torsions, install them now or wait?
Here's my dilema. Got new torsions (well new used torsions) for my car. Sitting here in a box looking at me, taunting me and trying to make me install them.
Problem is, I figure I've got another week left of driving this year, wanted to refresh everything this winter (shocks, bushings, turbo tie rods, adjustable plates in the rear, beefier torsions). How much of a pain in the neck is installing these? Not worth it to do for a week or maybe two of driving and just having to take things back apart again? Am I nuts for wanting to put them in now and deal with bushings and everything else later? On a related note, how much of this stuff can be done before needing an alignment? Can replacing just the torsions happen?

Why only a week left? Is there snow on the ground? That means you need to mount you snow tires too.
Do all this suspension stuff at once. You will need an alignment when you're done, so just pay for it once. BTDT. No fun.

Wait until you go to set the ride heights with those non-adjusting spring plates. That's a lot of fun.
![]() Wait and do everything all at once, then get it aligned and cornerbalanced. -Chris

Ditto! Just did new t-bars, adjustable spring plates, T-tie rods and Netrix bushings! Let's just say, I'd rather not have to do it again.

Don't get me started on spring plates. I got Sway Aways almost completely installed before I realized they were for a '68 911 with a shorter wheel base. I can't tell you what a nightmare I had with receiving so many non-fitting parts. The wrong spring plates cost me a good 9 hrs. in a freezing cold garage. I even had to reinstall the old ones, just to get th wheels back on to roll the car out of the garage to wait for another week until I got the right spring plates.

Okay, wait it is
![]() And my car isn't galvanized, Richard, so it won't be seeing roads once they've salted.

Just noticed what kind of car you have. I still have those spring plates, if you're interested. Seller refused to take them back and I won the charge back dispute with my credit card. I'm not sure whether they're matched to the torsion tubes.

PM me what you'd want for them and what info youve got about them. Are they new? Pics?

Dotorg, I tried to PM you, but it said you don't accept them. I'm about to do a lot of traveling, but will try to remember to bring my digital camera with me to the office on Sunday. I keep a lot of spare Porsche parts in my office. PM me your email and I'll try to send you photos.

Having just finished my suspension work my advice is to do it all at once. Setting the ride height is a sufficiently big pain that you won't want to do it again for at least a year. Also, you can take your time, do some detailing and perhaps even your own alignment.
