Question Photoblocker for plates, does it really work?

There was a test on a televisionprogram here in sweden called trafikmagasinet "traffic-magazine".

They test the product called Photoblocker, you just spray it on the plate then it should reflect the plate for all cameras.

Under the test it work really fine, have anyone test it or now if it's that good as it looked like?

Looks like the car on the right is definetly getting more sun on the back of the car. Looks like SUN glare is making the plate unreadable.

A friend of mine has a clear plastic cover over his plate and it only allows the plate to be viewed from directly behind. Viewing the plate from any angle blocks the view.... seems to work pretty good not sure where he got it or what it is called

It's probably that cover that's advertised in the back of Rod & Truck.

I keep thinking about getting one before my next bank heist, but it's always more important to me to get more hp first.

It's an edited version of the same photo.

I think the without/with pictures are (poorly) photoshopped. All shadows are the same. There is a 'brighter' area on the rear of the 'with' car that has an edge. The white blank over the plate doesn't even fit right!

I've seen a plastic cover that makes it such that one half of the plate is blanked when viewed above or to the side - sort of a polorizing filter.

I think these products are dubious and either are or should be illegal.

From what I hear, this gadget is supposed to act like a mirror when the flash goes off. Does it work???

"The white blank over the plate doesn't even fit right!"

Sloppy job. Can't even P-shop correctly. Looks hookey to me.

I've got one of those shields on the front of my car and people think the thing is outrageous. My plate is absolutely unreadable at any angle. It's made with those ridged plastic sheets like those dual image cards that you tilt one way and see one pic, and tilt another way and see a different pic. Or like those old 3d baseball cards. Laminate a couple of sheets of that plastic together, except cover half the numbers with the sheet polarized in the opposite direction, and you can never read all the numbers at the same time. But I hear photo radar takes a picture of the front back of your car, so you really need a rear cover too. But with a rear cover, I have to think you are bound to be pulled over as the thing is totally obvious.

In California the plastic license plate covers are illegal. California vehicle code section 5204(e). The part of the plate that you are allowed to cover with plastic is the year sticker to prevent theft.

It is only a fix-it ticket. An officer can make it a fine and fix-it by filling out a 40610 affidavit.

I saw that tv-program too.

Since I recently came very close to loosing my license in a photo-trap I'd love to hear if stuff like this really works.

The photo-traps always use a red flash when taking pictures of cars going faster than the speed limit. They say that the red flash is the mildest on drivers, but I've seen it and it is pretty strong. So the idea of creating a mirror-effect on the flash seems possible?

I agree the plate seems to be made in photoshop...

But here's a pic from the TV-Program and this one is not from photoshop.

Hey, if this works, I'm on the market for two spay-overs or two cover sheets.
Flanders (famous for it's fields) is being re-nazified by automatic speed trap flashers: they are EVERYWHERE.
After a period of over 10 years without traffic tickets, I've just collected 2 in a row... The problem is that you don't even really know it when you exceed the limit (we come from a century of anarchy...), the only trigger is when the bill arrives in the mail! The learning process is expensive.

In Sweden it's a law that when cameras are mounted and running, the people in traffic can read on a plate that saids something like: "to secure the roads and avoid accidents this road has automatic speedlimit cameras"

So at least we get a warning..

I saw a TV show that did an exposee on this license plate number obscuring devices. The cops reviewed the photos (digital) on their computers and while some were barely legible at first, they simply droped them into an image enhancement program (any of hundreds of programs out there can do it) and presto!, in miliseconds they gotcher number. Busted! They got 100% of the photos to give up the perps lisence plate number and the fines were sent right out.

I think the James Bond revolving lisence plate is the way to go. In fact I saw a really neat plate mount bracket at the annual Hot Rod show in Essex that has an actuator to flip the plate down so it can't be seen at all, then it just flips back. Very sneaky and stealthy.

Cool

I read that even spraying routine clear on your plate will cause a glare from the high intensity photo stobe.. the writer was a Calif lawyer who wrote a book on defending yourself in court. So I have been spraying my plates for a couple of years and can't confirm that it works.. But you can't tell that the plate has been sprayed, even up close......Ron

If the raw image is unreadable and must be digitally enhanced it would be relatively easy to beat in court.

Also, in the good ol' USA we have the right to face our accuser. Since an unmanned camera cannot testify I can't imagine losing a contested ticket. A judge is not allowed to present evidence in a case, so who presents the evidence?

I read on one of those anti ticket sites to plead not guilty and it'll probably be dismissed........Ron
