Need Weber help
I just installed freshly rebuilt Webers. Engine won't start. I have spark all around. Funny thing is it will pop when I prime each stack with a small amount of gas but otherwise acts like no fuel. There is pressure from the pump going to the banjo. air and fuel screws are set at beginning set-up. The small accelerartor tube spits in dsamll quantities of gas when pumping the accelerator. How can I check to see if gas is otherwise actually getting in?

If your accelerator pumps are working but the motor doesn't run at all, even when pumping the throttle, then the problem is not with the carbs. The accelerator pumps inject fuel directly into the stacks, hence into the cylinders.

Remove the top section of the carbs to see if there is fuel in the float bowls.

Use a float gauge to see what the levels are. too low and they won't draw fuel properly. Did you say a dismal amount of fuel fron the accel pumps? should get .5 - .7cc if I recall....

Please describe how you are trying to start the car. Is it cold where the car is?
Here is what works for me when the engine is cold: I turn the ignition key on and let the pump work for about 10 seconds. I floor the gas pedal 2 or 3 times. Then i engage the starter and it will usually start. If not, i'll floor the pedal 1 or 2 more times and start over. It usually start afterwards. When it's really cold, i have to play with the gas pedal for 10-20 sec once it's started, i'll let it warm up a bit at 1200-1500rpm ( < 1 minute). At some point the engine speed will increase by itself even if the pedal is steady. I usually take off after this. HTH Marc-Andre |

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago when I installed new webbers on my Westy. I found out that one of the floats were stuck in the "up" (full bowl) position when unscrewing the top off the carb and heard a light "clunk" sound of the float falling down.
Tightened it up and it's been running great for over 2 years now. Hope that's all it is. Gary |
