3.0 or 3.2
hi all,
recently bought a cheap 86 911 from japan and its arriving in australia soon. i was cheap because it has apparently been fitted with a 3.0. i assume there is no such thing as a 3.0 86 911. ive attached a photo, could somebody confirm it is a 3.0 and any reason why someone would go to the effort of fitting a 3.0. ![]() |

My guess is that it *is* an SC re-papered to an '86.
(the center reflector would not have black lettering on an '86)

Looks like my 81. There is no telling what the true displacement is from this picture, but you are looking at a CIS injection system?
Maybe only the injection system was changed? Do you have the engine number? Did you check the vin etc.? More likely people change the appearance of the car to newer with keeping the old engine, rather than the other way around. The SC is made into a carrera lookalike with minor mods. Front Valance, Rear decklid, steeering wheel, speedo and another few things... If it was cheap, who cares what it is. As long as you don't have a chevy 350 in there. ![]() George |

just got to the bottom of it.
there was a mistake on the invoice the vin no is wpozzz91zcs100446 we read it as wpozzz91zgs100446 so i guess that explains it. i think its a 1981 sc 3.0. |

Nice score. I would definitely have the car checked out to make sure it is road-worthy before "exploring the limits". It's obviously been re-painted (appears to have been silver originally) and has an aftermarket fiberglass rear bumper. The bumper only worries me in combination with the cheap re-paint (didn't even spray the rear latch panel), and makes me think "rear end collision". If everything checks out, have fun, and drive the snot out of it!

Cool, sounds like a pretty good deal assuming it runs. Ruf style rear bumper, Ruf style wheels, 964 frt bumper and rockers. Not bad.
