Kind of OT- Anyone from Montreal?
I have an impromptu trip to Montreal this weekend, from 15th to 18th.
Anyone care to tell me what is nice to see there, as I have Sunday and Tuesday morning free. Any Pelicans there? Thanks! |

Sabin Farley (farleyd). These days he usually hangs out on the 911 board.

i was born there, but left in 1963. i went back in '91 for family stuff, and all i can say is don't drive downtown. crazy french drivers in an all day traffic jam. absolutely no parking.

Montreal traffic rules: Amber means speed up, red means keep moving but get really close to the car in front. DO NOT cross the road on the assumption a driver will obey a red light.

i read an article in maxim magazine that stated it has the best restaurants and titty bar going. so i would suggest you bring a bunch of $1 bills.
did i mention the titty bars? the article made me want to go there, then i recalled i would have to fly. i dont fly well.

Canada does not have any one (or two) dollar bills. We have coins. Five is the smallest bill.

Montreal is one of my favorite cities... since you are only there a short time, make sure you have dinner in one of Montreal's many jazz clubs / restaraunts and tour the area in and around the Old Port (old Monteal). From the Old Port there is more than enough cafes, shops, museums, churches etc, to fill your day.

I'm with Derek - Montreal is far and away my favorite city in North America. It's a very pedestrian city (kinda like Paris) downtown and that's an unusual thing here. I highly recommend that you find lodging in the centre core. Even in the winter downtown Montreal is a great place to be - go for long walks and explore some of Derek's recommends, by all means, it's an exceedingly safe place!

Actually I *migt* have a program for Sunday, thanks to one Pelican not too far from there. We'll see. Thanks anyways! |

Well, hum, scuff scuff.... I work in Montreal. And yes they girls at Wanda or Chez Paré are amazingly nude.... In fact, every hockey team meet there after a game against our Canadians... Even met Gretzky once.
Other than that, the Mount Royal (a small elevated hill in the very center of the city) worths a trip. The Old Montreal sector is pretty crowded too. Here a recap: Wanda and Paré (downtown) > you wont want to go home again.... Ste. Catherine Street West of McGill St. > place to shop Old Montreal > European spririted places Crescent street > glamour and «à la mode» places, bars and restaurants St-Denis Street > school french university sector with bars and restaurants Mont-Royal Street East > a touch of New-York but in French Biddles Jazz Club > that one place very cozzy. Its called after the name of the famous pianist Biddles Sherlocks > trendy bar, lawyers and the likes Youll be safe just about anywhere in the city, except some northern suburbs, where you wont go anyway. You can walk at night three in the morning without any concern. Just dont be too flashy. Girls are surprinsingly easy to talk to. You want to seduce them? Just try to speak French. Here are some hints: - Excusez-moi mademoiselle, où sont les toillettes? (Pronounce > Ex-cue-sey mwa ma-de-mwa-zel, ooh son lay twa-lett???) Sorry Miss, where are the bathrooms? - Vous êtes très belle mademoiselle! (Pronounce > voo ett tray bell ma-de-mwa-zel!) Youre so beautiful. - Excusez-moi mademoiselle, vous buvez dans mon verre? (Pronounce > Ex-cue-sey mwa ma-de-mwa-zel, vooh byou-vey den mon vair!!!) Sorry Miss, you drink my beer! - Excusez-moi mademoiselle, c’est moi que vous regardez???? (Pronounce > Ex-cue-sey mwa ma-de-mwa-zel, say mwa kay vooo re-guar-day???) Excuse me Miss, is it me youre after???? Use a very strong English accent, youll be surprised.... HAve fun. PS : buy some Porsche parts....

Thanks Farley! Now I know where to go to avoid trouble.
I'll try your french tip, although french is my mother tongue... How long until they notice that? Could be fun. Plane off in 12 hours, keep the ideas coming! Marc André, c'est dommage. La prochaine fois alors. George |
