Help! No heat! Family Jewels at risk !

I have been trying to get my heat to work on my 1976 911s and no go. I set the top lever to the far right, the middle lever to the far right, the bottom lever to the far right, and pull up both floor mounted levers all the way. The fan motor activated by the dash controls is working, and the fan motor activated by the floor mounted levers is running. The floor mounted levers when in the full up position also close those two respective vents underneath the car that I assume alow the shrowd fan o push air from the intake down thru the exchanger and down the tunnel to the front of the car. Any suggestions besides a coat?

Get under the car and make sure the heater boxes are working. Follow the heater hoses up from the heat exchangers, on either side of the transmission.

I think your controls are quite similar if not the same as mine. The top two dash levers are for fresh (cold in the winter) air. With the top lever to the right, you have wide open fresh air blowing in. This may be part of your problem. With the top lever to the left you should be able to feel heat from the defroster (bottom lever right) or the floor (bottom lever left.)

Bruce, Reading the owner's manual section on heat controls would go a long way towards solving your problem, if still no heat when you actually turn it on, get back to us.

Top lever to the left. Middle lever, doesn't matter as long as the top lever is to the left. Bottom (red) lever, to the left. Two levers between the seats, fully up. This should work.

If you need to defog the windscreen, put the middle lever to the right and the top lever about in the middle position.

As far as reading the owners manual, been there, did that-no luck. My manual says to place the 3 dash controls to the right (sounds wrong). As far as reading the instructions written on the controls-been there did that, no luck (says place dash controls to the right) . Between Superman and Na2ub, THANKS for taking the time to answer this. Yes, amazing at it sounds, I have not had to use my heat before (Arizona). Usually, it is plenty warm in the car unles it is snowing, so I have had little need for the heat controls up until recently (started going up north for fun). Thanks again.

Your heat control boxes are not opening.

The red lever in between the seats opens these, but if you get no heat with it pulled up they are not working for some reason.

Get under the car (safely secured) and see why they are not opening, if something is broken, you can remove the return springs in them and use a piece of wire to hold them in the open position until you get them fixed right.

Do those cars have footwell blowers? I hooked my footwell blowers up to a separate switch (they were part of the climate control system, now gone).

If not, you need to check the trunk to make sure when you pull the tabs, the cables move and properly open and close the flaps in the front ducts. The front blower only blows cold air. It would be nice if the front blower blew whatever air you opted for, but it's one of those confusing things you just have to deal with.

Certainly, you can take off the kickpanels in the passenger compartment on either side of the front seats and pop off the ducting and see if heat is getting up to the front cabin area at all. It should be very toasty once those kick panels and ducting is off.

My engine bay blower doesn't even work right now, yet I get enough heat to drive me out of the car w/ the footwell blowers, but I don't know when they (front blowers) were first introduced.

Get the car hot, get the engine fan working, then start working your way forward to find out where the heat is ending.
it's either, the flaps on the heat exchanges are stuck closed, or the cables that pull the flaps in the trunk ducting are not working, and those are closed (but it should always direct it somewhere). In any case, once you get those kickpanels off if heat is not coming into the cabin from there, flaps on the exchangers aren't working or there is a break in the ducting back there letting the hot air escape.

If the heater boxes are in bad shape, it maybe time to rebuild or replace them. When removing the 6mm nuts that secure the boxes to the car, do not break the studs. If necessary, use the fire wrench to loosen the nuts. This is best done with the motor & tranny out of the car.
