radar detector in third brake light ?
Has anyone mounted a V-1 inside a third brake light? I don't need the light but it would be handy to conceal the V-1 and use the remote kit.

Randy, I've been investigating V1 mounting myself and came across this company. They sell a cover for mount that NSX guys use. They also do the display in the mirror deal.

I've thought about doing this, but have never taken the time to investigate it thoroughly. I think it's the best place to mount the thing.
The mirror option doesn't seem to make sense. That would alert everyone behind you that you have a detector. I like the V1 remote display by the tach more. Much more subtle.

These are all good ideas but they fail to deliver what poeple in VA and DC need. A totally concealed unit. If a manufacturer was to come up with a way to hide the complete unit and integrate into the interior, then that would be something.
It's not hard to find a concealed spot for the remote display, it is hiding the bigger unit that is the problem since it needs both front, side and rear openings to be effective. -Jeff nolift911@hotmail.com |

This is what I'm thinking of: The V1 unit in a box near the third brake light.
The V1 remote mounted in the dash.

Randy -- you're best off having as little sheet metal between you and the really threatening radar (ie, up front) as you can. Thats the big downside of putting it in the back window. It'll work, but you'll lose range to the front where you actually can do something about it.

Moses, who did the install of the remote display there? Any links to a document about the install?
Thanks.

Jgordon, I could be wrong, but that looks like a photoshop job, not an actual display mounted there.

Is this for a "top Mount" brake light? Remember, the higher the better for reception.

radar detector in third brake light ?
I see others were thinking the same thing as the V1 in the windshield is too obvious. I heard of some guy mounting one in his visor and having it specially recovered. Casusal observers wouldn't notice it in the passenger side. Too bad you can't seperate all the detector parts and put the detectors up high and hidden with the processor stuff hidden under the dash...

A buddy of mine has his detector mounted in the headliner.
Far as I can tell it performs very well. You would never know it is there until it goes off.

The V1s rear and directional functionality will degrade if it is mounted in the headliner or on the visor (Sez the tech guys at V1) -- the 911 rear comes down low enought o block signals -- it really needs to be mounted in a special mirror mount -- but with the remote on the dash.
I've thought exactly what your photoshops shows for the remote -- let us know how it goes and how you did it! |

Gut one of those bigger beany babies and stuff it with a V1 and stick it on your dash. You will look like a woose and loose laser detection, but it will be fun to gut a beanie.

Just out of curiousity - wouldn't the cops have radar detector detectors? I know they have them here in Oz, and no matter where people hide them, the cops find them.

I have had my V1 installed above the visor for a while and it works fine up there. I also had it below the visor and I didn't notice any diff.

I hang mine from the pass visor/next to mirror and get good Rear detection as they sneak up.. Calif HP does that a lot outside of LA.
