???

Is that supposed to be an L?

I'll look around this weekend. Many of the shopping malls have little shops which can create custom license plates. I'll have to check if they look authentic or not though.

Incidently, I have an old original CA license plate for my car which says "PORCUPN". It was from the original owner. My current license plate is just normal CA state issue.

I don't get it. Why would anyone want old CA plates? Are they colllectable or something?

I suppose for the same reason many here in the USA have Euro or German license plates on their cars.

I remember seeing one or two US license plates on cars in Pakistan...sure made me do a double take.

Yep, old plates are *very* collectible. The older the better (i.e porcelain license plates). Google for 'license plates for sale' and you'll be amazed at the demand (and prices) for some old plates.

If your state allows for YOM (year of manufactor) plates, you can put a old 78 plate on your 78.

Here's a neat online Plate maker:

This guy makes replica plates.

A lot of the 356 crowd and early CA collectors like period correct colred plates.

I have a 1980s blue and yellow CA plate on my 83.

I purchased original 1970 Virginia plates from ebay for $20. Yes, old plates are big business and are a nice touch for the older cars.
