Rebuilt fuel distribuor
Any leads on a good rebuilder of fuel distributors. Pelican shows them NLA, and $1855 for a new one is getting close to the stratosphere. I have found some by Python Injection, but I would rather go with a rubuilder that someone out there has had a positive experiance with. Thanks in advance for any leads.

Jeremy,
I have seen rebuilds advertised by Vertex. Look in Excellence or Pano. Troy

FD rebuilds came up recently, Imagine Auto does it. There was also a place linked in Noah's fire damaged C3 FD thread a few weeks ago.
Do a search. Tom |

Doesn't Imagine farm it out to www.specialtauto.com ?
Edit: A member posted some issues with specialt recently. Something about longer than promised lead time. I don't know if that member got his FD back yet. I would be very specific and aske all the right questions before I send mine out. Last edited by MotoSook; 11-19-2003 at 10:24 AM.. |

Noah, maybe I am just used to SF Bay Area labor rates, but I didn't really think the price was out of line, considering they don't just rebuild the distributor, they increase the fuel flow as match the ports as well. Tom |

Call Stoddard. They will turn you on to a guy who does that for a living and has a great reputation.

Imagine Auto does not farm it out to Special T - it goes to a guy in Louisianna that specializes in CIS fuel heads. I think the rebuild only price is around $300? It is more if you want it modified for better flow as I did with my 930. The turn around time for my fuel head was less than a week.

Here's my feeling on rebuilt CIS fuel distributors: There is no such thing. There are FDs that have been cleaned. But the "business" part of a FD is a matched-pair bore and pin. The tolerances between these are so tight that gasoline, under 60 psi, does not leak through. There is no o-ring, and the pin must move freely. What're they gonna do? Re-machine that matched pair? I don't think even NASA could do that. So, I guess I'd work on cleaning it well to see if that frees the pin, or opens the clogged passages. If that does not fix it, find a good used one and clean it. Or pay $300 for a "rebuilt" (clean) one.
Berryman's Chem-Dip. That's the stuff.

Thank you all for the replys. I think we will try the cleaning route first, and I have a lead on a good used unit if that fails. Has anyone had any experiance with the Python units, good or bad. I assume they are Bosch units that they "recondition"
