Moving to Vegas! Any owners out there?

I'd like to get in contact with some air cooled 911 owners who live in Vegas.

How is it owning an air cooled car in summers that hit temperatures of 110 and above?

Mahalo,
Steve

Tabs, Singpilot, 911SC Pilot, a bunch!

You'll get used to it.

It's a dry heat.

Oil cooler up to snuff? Fans work? Have the extra scoop? The problem children get the Elephant lines up to the cooler.

The original designers meant that their vehicles would be in the entire conquered world.

As long as you are moving, it is generally OK. I shut the A/C off when the oil gets to 215C.

I drive the 944 during those 6 weeks that the temp never goes below 100F.

YMMV.

Right about now, you'd be wondering if the defrost and heater are working. Can be at freezing every night in the winter. It does snow for a couple of days every year. The altitude (2200') will make it seem a little wimpier than at sea level. It will more likely like an increased grade of gas (if you are not using premium) to not ping when hot. Buy (and use) a windsheild shade, or a cover if out. It is sandy out there, watch the air filter more closely. It has become the gravel truck capital of the west. Expect the rock chips.

And last but not least.... (according to your insurance company) it is the drunk-driver, red light running 24 hour a day party by tourists driving rental cars capital of the world. Justifying a doubling of your present rate.

I live here in Sin City, along with Tabs, and Sing.
For my 76 , it handles the heat during the summer, my temp does go up to 215 - 218 on the drive to work, and or home. I havent been near 250 yet (knock on the wood desk). I dont hace AC on mine, just roll the windows down, and drive faster. But sitting at a long, traffic filled stop light doesnt help matters.

My cars that are parked outside to have frost all over the windows, except for the P car, since it sits in the garage.

Yes, BUY A WINDOW SHADE. This sun will bake and crack your dash . DO NOT use Armour All out here (even though you shouldnt use it period), use STP Son of a Gun instead. Much better results. I wouldnt recommend using a cover out here, because of the dirt and the wind. Bad combination. The dirt will STILL get up and under the cover, and scratch the paint worse because of the cover. Yes, the air filter needs to be check alot more, because of the dirt. Rock chips blow, Ill take a picture of my front end. Its nasty.

Insurance. I use Farmers, Im 35 and married, and pay 310 per six months. Dont know if that to high for a 76 911s, but thats what I pay.

The other funny thing, the only time you'll go to the strip is when friends are in town. You'll avoid that place like the plague once you live here. You'll discover the neighborhood casino / bar / grill.

No matter how many times you tell out of towners there really IS another Vegas, they will still want to go to the strip. And they will seem perplexed when you seem lost all the time on the strip. (cuz you are).

This is great stuff guys... I've been out to Vegas almost every weekend for the past few months so my wife and I decided to take the plunge. Hopefully, we'll be able to meet up one of these days.

Isn't there a race track out there somewhere?
