SC brakes, Upgrade or leave stock?
I'm just thinking ahead as to the best way to go for future brakes on my SC. Their working fine right now but the front calipers are dragging a bit so they need to be rebuilt or ?
There pretty much original except the pads and front rotors and the brake lines were replaced a year ago. I'm not tracking the car so the stock brakes seem fine for my needs but I was wondering if any of the kits out there might be a good way to go? It has about 80k miles on it w/ 7's and 9's ![]() |

If you're not tracking it, save your money. For around $350-400 you could rebuild 95% of your stock brakes system (MC, re-build calipers, new pads, rotors and flex line) and they would be more than enough.
Now if you have money just itching to be spent, then buy all means go for the 930 brakes, or another kit. Just MHO |

I'd leave them stock as well.
If you're buying rebuilt calipers and new rotors anyway, you might consider putting the 84-89 Carrera brakes up front. The rotor is thicker, giving extra margin to absorb heat. It's a simple bolt on upgrade, but not really necessary unless you're at the track.

Thank's for the reply's
Will Carrera brakes work in the rear ? and is the total gain just the thicker rotors with the Carrera brakes? |

Yes, the thicker rotor is the only difference, but it is a useful advantage at the track.
The correct match for Carrera brakes in the front is stock SC in the rear. If you go to Carreras in the rear you will need to add the proportioning valve from the Carrera. The rear rotor will then be thicker as well, but that's not necessary.

Bob - leave 'em stock as the other said. I'm doing the same with mine, and plan to see minimal track time starting in January.
Put better pads on and Swepco. You'll be fine. ![]()

If you upgrade to Carrera brakes, be also install the proportioning valve.
The PV is designed to allow a max pressure of 30 Bar to the rear. The Carrera rear brakes have large pistons than SC rear brakes. (per BA's Book) If one can find the pieces, it is possible to spilt the SC brakes and replace the center spare pieces to make the rotors large. This is not an easy task to accomplish.

I prefer Ate Super Blue myself. I run stock SC calipers on my somewhat lightened SC track car with Pagid Orange pads. I do have SS lines but am otherwise unmodified.
For a car of that mass, I don't think you need to upgrade, even for track use. Get more cooling before you go spending thousands on 4 piston calipers and bigger rotors.

There was a previous post by Kevin at TRE where he upgraded a customers car with Boxster rear calipers and Carrera rotors on the front. No new M/C or P/V was needed. If you go beyond that it will cost a minimum of $1500 to use 964 calipers. Prices rise from there.

Slot the rotors, use an aggressive pad and ATE Blue...if you can find it. The US has banned the blue and the gold (natural) color is all that is being brought into the country.

I,ve got the C2 calipers installed on my carrera. It doesent brake any better offcourse but i like the feel alot better (my old calipers might have been bad). This a cheap upgrade to do if you allready have the carrera rotors i think. Paid 250 euro for the calipers and 85 for the blocks.

Bob, I'm going to go with the Carrera calipers/rotors up front and remain stock in the rear. I didn't get fade at either Willow track or the recent Mulhulland run. Then again, perhaps I ain't driving hard enough
