After a search...still need help w/ door locks

It was warm here in Indy today, so I jumped in the trusty '88 Targa and blasted off to the grocery store for some limes. " No worries, this thing is as reliable as my Toyota truck", I thought to myself. Then it hit. I went to lock my drivers door from the outside and only the passenger door locked. Tried it a few more times, now with a few onlookers around me. It basically made me look like I could not figure out how to lock my own car. The pass door works fine with the key, the centrl lock button, and the knob. The driver's door will unlock with the central button and the rotory knob but is very stiff when one tries to push the knob down and does not do anything with the key in the door. Strangely, I can hear the actuator in the drivers door working when one locks and unlocks the door with the key or central button.

So what do y'all think? Maybe the rod, maybe the clip? Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks for your time.

The rod. Take the door panel off, and I would be willing to bet the plastic ball cup has failed. The new part is a solid plastic rod & socket, with a 964 part #. If you need it let me know & I'll find my reciept with the #.

I had the same problem on my 86.
