What Would You Pay?
Not Again....
What would YOU pay for a Concouse '87 911 with factory spoilers. 45,000 miles. I don't think it has ever seen rain. I mean it's cleaner than my Boxster was after it was two years old. It does have a Mass Air Flow, and a "suspension tower" (I don't know the correct name) up front. Original paint. Original paint still visible in the wheel wells. Only problem is I'd spoil it by driving it. The car could be in a new car showroom. |

$26,500??? I'd go higher if I was in your shoes but then I'd realize that 964s and 993s in nice shape are not far beyond that price...
Sounds like a great car though, and it is often hard to establish a "market" value for such rare examples. What is it worth to YOU? You're the market in this case.

I'd think that Dave and Amir are closer to what it's worth (no offense to Sam, but DC ain't CA!). I'd have no problem buying a garage queen (I did), paying a premium (I did), and then using 'her' as she was intended (I'm gonna)! If it's not worth that much to YOU (understandable), rest assured that SOMEONE will be willing to pay...

It depends on lots of things, but I'd say in general it could go for anywhere from 20-25 depending upon location. Heck, for that matter in the right place and time the guy could probably get 30 for it, but that would be from someone who was not educated or just had to have that particular car.
If it is exactly what you want and the pickings are slim, then get it, but if it's just a nice car, but not your dream car then you may want to pass. Shoot, wait and see if the price comes down. This time of year in the DC area it might not sell quickly, so he might come down in price.

Mid 20's in DC = Low 20's in the land of fruit and nuts. I assume you are talking a coupe.

I agree with the $20-25k range. But always like to hear the boards opinon.
It is a coupe. The engine sounds great compared to some of the cars I've looked at. In fact the closest thing to it was the 993 I drove about two years ago. I've never seen a cleaner 911. We shall see how badly they want to sell it.... Jaxon |

![]() This one was bought last week, by Pelicanite, for $23,500. Faster, more powerful, better brakes, better suspension -- and no accordion bumpers. The Carrera is a great car, but it's no collectible, and the prices of the newer models keep coming down...

JAck...... Whomever bought that 993 got a STEAL. Unless its 150K miles or has been wrecked or something.... what a deal!
I would pay $24K all day long for such a car... I agree that the 3.2 Carrera is a $20K car even in fantastic condition. If it was not THAT good, it would be a $16K car or less. Terry

Jack-
WOW, now that's a buy, IF it is as nice as it looks in the pics. Your points are well taken. They are special to us, but not going up in value. I plan to drive the heck out of whatever I buy. Jaxon ![]() |

Also, I don't think that 993 is a fair comparison with a concours condition 3.2. A $23,000 993 may be more desirable as a driver, but will probably never be worth what that 3.2 will in the distant future if cared for and kept in the condition it is in. Now compare this concours 3.2 Carrera with a nice low miles (<10,000) creampuff 993 that's probably going in the high-$30K to mid-$40K price range (what I feel is a "fair" comparison) and I think the 3.2 comes out to be a bargain.

The 993 was a steal - but it had 90K miles - AND a respray. And I disagree with Jack - Sorry - but I think that low mileage g-50 Carreras are collectable or will be.

Also - I think a guy on rennlist just bought a 1987 Targa - 17,000 for lower 30's. There are folks out there that will pay a premium for these cars, especially the low milage examples.

collect? sorry, I'll drive.
I paid towards the higher end for my 41K mile SC, but I got over the "too nice to drive" and now it is closing in on 60K miles. The nice thing is I'm enjoying the "young" miles of the car, and when it has gone to the shop, Tyson has been amazed that everything is where it belongs, and nothing is screwy. Those are a few of the advantages to buying a lower miles car and using it as a driver. You could buy that car and daily driver it for 5 years and still be under 100K miles... Then again, I don't buy anything to look at...if I don't use it, I get rid of it. (insert some sort of marraige disclaimer here). |

I'm not saying the 993 or Carrera won't be collectibles, one day. But even if that happens, it's going to be a long time before it's the case. There are a lot of them out there.
Right now, they're both used sports cars. Some are pristine, some aren't. In my opinion, both the Carrera and the 993 are ptrtty cool cars. Which one you prefer depends on a lot of factors.
