Question RWHP numbers for 3.0 and 3.2?

Curious to see what kind of HP can be made by well-tuned 3.0s and 3.2s. Trying to figure out the top HP of each model. If you can, list some of the gear used to get you to that number.

Thoughts from the Pelicanites?

Regards,

Jason

we have seen 200 to 210 on a well tuned 100k mile + 3.2 liter, and generally, a 170hp number for the 3.0 SC.

these number are pretty interesting in that porsche only rated the 911 3.2 at 210hp flywheel and the older 3 liter at 180hp!!!

we have tested 3 of the 3.2 lier cars. the 210 number was with an eRAM and without it it was more like 202hp. Later without the eRAM, it ran 210 but it had the chip and a little better muffler, as well as the air box removed and a cone filter on a tube, attaching to the AFM with an AFM adapter. (round fitting to attach a tube to)

tests were done in 4th gear from 3k to redline. any other gear and other factors come into play. (more transmission losses, wheel spin, and inertial factors )

221 RWHP at 6200, 196 Tq at 5400. '89 3.2L carrera motor (US). Known mods- chip, headers, sport muffler (the po may have done other things as well?). The car made 224.2 without the airbox and filter. 4th gear on a 915 with 7:31 R+P.

Thanks

Thanks for your time on this...
I'm trying to make an upgrade plan, and lots of things hinge on which way I'm going to go. This info was super helpful. Thanks Sman for the link.

Best regards,

Jason

I see you are in Costa Mesa with a '74. I just had Supertec (Grace Lane, right off of Baker in Costa Mesa) build a 3.0 for my '74 (not cheap, but worth it in my opinion). They did great work! I am really happy with the results. I have not dynoed it yet, but "seat of the pants" puts it right there with Noahs......it has similar mods, but on a fresh rebuild...see my profile/pix. By the way...I think Noah's engine is for sale.

Sorry Noah...Guess I had your enigine on my mind from reading this thread...meant rdane! That reminds me...Once I was looking at a '65 Mustang on a sales lot. While I examined it, a saleman came out and tried very hard to get me to take it for a test drive....I told him that would be tough since I had already noted that the transmission had been removed.....he was shocked! Apparently someone had stolen it right out of the car on the lot's front row the night before!

I've got a used air filter for sale, but I think I'll keep the engine. It's Zielke's engine that's for sale.
