Fuchs 16x7s on rear of '72

I know this has come up before. I checked the archives, and the general consensus is that this is a difficult fit.

I have a set of these wheels (and 16x6 for the front) on long-term loan and plan to get a tire mounted and try the fit. My questions are whether the clearance is better with (i) any specific brand of tire, or (ii) 205 rather than 225 section tires? These are nice wheels, and my original 15" Fuchs are pretty blasted.

This is a 1972 T Targa with no suspension mods.

Thanks.

Ocassionally people post who have put 225s on, but generally speaking 205 is the max.

Check out the pics of P-thomas' car for 16x7s (all around) with 205s.

Gratuitous photos

I have 205/50R16's on my '69, but they are on 16x6s and slightly undersize (they fit easily).

I briefely used 215/60 on +23.3mm o/s 7x15 Fuchs on the rear of my '72(before Carrera flares were added) they burned the paint several inches up into the quarter panel.

Are the wheels in the pictures of Paul Thomas' car 16X7 or 15X7?
