CIS piston alternatives
 

Are there any alternatives to the standard CIS piston that can be run in alusil cylinders?

I've got 6 servicable cylinders, but want to upgrade pistons to an RS style and run on webers. Anyone done this?

My understanding from Waynes book is that you can run any piston really its the changing the cam overlap that is the problem with CIS. Further, here in the states US CHrome and EBS claim to be able to replate Alusil cylinders to Nikasil and then run aftermarket pistons in any CR. The Plating is ~$1K and the pistons are ~$1K. So not that much cheaper than new Mahles but you get a better CR and you can order them to work with any Cam you like.

Alusil cylinders require the use of Ferrocoat (Iron coated or plated) ... so I doubt very many replacement high-performance domed pistons with valve relief cuts are available!

Thanks Warren, I should have clarified that I know normal pistons will not work in Alusil. I thought someone out there might have tried what I was thinking and found some one who produces high quality ferro-coated pistons.

Ron, that's my next step I think. I emailed Wayne about them, but the problem I have here in Australia is import taxes. I'm just trying to cover all bases before I commit.

Elombard, I'd love to try that, but no one here does it. The cost to send them to the US also make it prohibitive.

--- is used parts a big $ difference for the same final cost of the parts.. like is an open package of pistons with a magic marker initial of the original purchaser considered used, and is a thousand $US cheaper ?

and for another base,
the 2.7 RS 8.5:1 was on my stock CIS for 40k miles with no problems.

Warren, I would agree that KS alusil pistons are plated, but i have never discovered any type of ferrous plating on Mahle alusil pistons. Please correct me if someone out there has found a Mahle piston that is magnetic.
