What Can I expect to Pay for a headliner replacement (coupe)?
I must have read 101 Projects (headliner replacement) over a dozen times and I am just too reluctant to remove all that glass, seals and everything else to get a new headliner in. I love challenges, but somethings should be left to the experts.
Soooooooooo, looks like it will go to a good shop, but I have no clue as to the average cost would be to replace a headliner on a coupe with a sunroof. I would like to be armed with this knowledge so at least I can respond to rediculous charges. Everyone who's been there, please chime in! Regards Bob 73.5T |

I sincerely doubt you are going to find a shop that is willing to do this without paying through the nose for it. This is the kind of jobs most garage shops hate since they'll have to charge you labor for this and from what I can tell, it will take a bit of time. Figure maybe 10 hours? 80/hour and your looking at $800 minimum. Even then, if there more into breaking apart engines and not reapolstery, it may still look like crap. If you really need to do it, I would pull out all the windows and take your time over a few weekends. Then get a professional installer to put them back in. We left my brothers headliner in his car when we redid it but did remove and install a new carpet kit. What seemed simple ended up taking time to get is correct. If I was a garage doing it, it would of cost $2000 worth of labor alone.

You have to take it to a automotive trim shop or a coach builder. I asked the guy who did my interior carpeting and he said he'd do it for 250. I think that's a great deal. He has these Puerto Rican's who can whip out the glass before you've blinked and they really do a great job. I was happy with the carpeting.

I have just completed this same job. I had a cracked windshield dried out seals torn headliner and broken sunroof cable. This was the first time I had ever replaced a windshield so I was somewhat intimidated, and put off the job for longer than I should. However it was not as difficult as anticipated and the headliner turned out as good as the original. You will need new front and rear seals and I would recommend cutting the old seals out before removing the trim/locking strips, it is very soft aluminum and very easy to damage.
Having said all this if you can find someone who will do a good job for $250 it would be worth it. If you have a sunroof which I do ,it adds a lot more time to the job. |

I purchased the headliner material and paid an upholsterer $200 to hang it in Brentwood, TN. The glass was out of the car at the time, however. The glass guy came to the upholstery shop and re-installed the glass (with new seals) so, I drove the car home. The windshield and rear window installation was about $100 as I recall.
Hope this helps... Jack

Guys. The place I use is called Auto Glass Body and Trim. They're on the north side of the city. I should have clarified: I did not get it done yet but they did do great job on the carpeting which is a decent size job.

mobile glass guys will go to upholstery shops and remove and reinstall your glass, one thing to keep in mind is to get the correct material, if you let the upholstery guy supply the headlinner material you my not get the correct stuff, when I went to get mine done the guy told me he was going to use factory material ( this was a lie ) I told a friend of mine that I was getting it done and he told me where to get the correct material which I did, and when I brought the car over to his shop I asked him to show me the material he had ordered, it was not the right stuff, it was a good thing I had picked up my own material which I handed to him and we worked out a price just for installing the material ( I have been lied to by auto upholstery guys to many times before ) unless the guy really knows porsches I would tell you to pick up your own material and just pay the guy to install it, that way you know what you getting
remove and reinstall glass : 250.00 headliner material : 130.00 labor to install headliner : 150.00

I had the headliner (which I purchased for $100) installed by a shop in Rialto, CA for $125. The shop was near the airport. He did an excellent job including removing the glass and reinstalling it.

Anyone had one replaced in Tucson or Phoenix, and could recommend? Price, etc. Pls
Mine has a rip in it at the zipper and it bothers me that it's there. It is droopy and the sunroof is kinda dragging on the frame. I've been avoiding since I thought it had been the conventional wisdom that it is to-hard-to-do. thx, todd |
