997 - they still have a lot of work to do.

The lamps in the front bumper a la 964/993 is a good idea, but please.... make them look more "Porsche".

Yeah I agree. Let's hope for round instruments as well.

Looks good I think. I don't hate the 996 much at all, and this is an imnprovement. Word is the 997 is a minor facelift on the way to the radical new 998 so I doubt we'll see an interior makeover until then. BTW....I've been told the 998 might have a flat eight....anyone else hear that?

A flat eight is probably just rumors, but seriously why not? What Porsches have there been with flat 8s? 804, 904, 908 and..? I can't remember more? Have I forgotten any?

Taking a very quick glance at it, it almost looks like a 993.

I think it looks great in the picture above.

The real question is, when the 997 comes out, will the 996 be relegated to the 2nd class citizen role that the 964 currently enjoys? I wonder what a used 996 will cost in '05 or so....

The round headlights are a step in the right direction. But the front indicator lights look lost where they are.

These minor cosmetic changes seem insignificant to me--its the overall shape that was lost when the 996 evolved from the 993--no bulging flares and beautiful rear end--all lost in the name of aerodynamics.

Yeah, I think I can make out flared fenders around those wheels. Imagine that.

This shot is more an "Artist's Impression" than a spy photo, I think.

The proportions are just wrong. I'm hoping it looks more like the Nurburgring spy photos Mikkel posted of that dark blue car. That one had some nice curvy rear guards.

btw, I saw two of Porsche's new 996 turbo cabriolets yesterday... in the flesh. Both were in black, one roof up and the other topless.

It looks a little goofy with the roof up (don't all 911 cabs?) but looks awesome with the roof down. I can see these things getting real popular, despite the price!

One of my coworkers just bought a silver convertible with a hardtop. God knows what he paid for it, but it looks good. Hoping to get a ride at some point.

This actually brings me to a question, i've read before of the speculation that porsche new flag ship model will end up being mid engine. Is it possible that the 998 will turn out to be mid engine?

Needs bigger flares - looks like a 996 with round headlights to me.

My version:

I've moved the right, front indicator lens so it's inline with the air duct. I think it looks better. Compare it to the position of the lens in the pic that Mikkel originally posted.
