Going rate for Fuchs 7" and 9"
This looks like a decent auction that has already met reserve with the wheels refinished. I wonder what the final winning bid will be? Even at this current bid, you got to figure its still a good deal. |
Those look gorgeous, and for a large and a half, a set of 7s and 9s refinished by Al Reed is a pretty good deal IMHO.
|
That's about what they are worth.....over that and it's ebay madness again. Interested to see what they finally go for.
|
Winning bid: $1,715..........kinda high, no?

They sell the wheels still new from porsche. I forgot for how much but I thought they were on the order of a grand for the 9". That said, I'd go 70% of the new price on a restored wheel. The factory piece comes with 0 history brand new ...
And the 7" wheel isn't that hard to find, those should be cheaper. You do the math for the set. George |
If anyone is wonder what they cost new...the 7s and 9s Fuchs on my car cost $750 a piece. Previous owner put them on earlier this year and left me the receipt.
|
Sonic:
Both the same, 7 and 9? 750 is less than what I have seen the 9" sold for. TIA, George |
New 16 x 9s are available for under $700 each.
Yes, people pay more for used, but don't ask me why. |
I was bidding on those and dropped out at $1650. I'm looking for a set of 16x9's. I talked with Wheel Enhancement and they wanted 750 for the 9's, they would give me 100 each for my 6's, and then charge me 250 each to exchange my 8's for 8's that would match the 9's they sold me. Total out of pocket to make that trade, $1800. I figured the ebay price was fair. I almost went up higher because then I would have had 2 sets of wheels and could have sold one set to offset the ebay cost.
Are Wheel Enhancements wheels new or just refurbished? Anyone know of another place to get wheels? Desperately seeking 9's. |
Other sources: Ernie's Alloys (Usually overpriced. I got my 944 turbo fronts there). 20th street Auto. I got my 9's from them. You have to keep calling and checking. I got them there for $900/both. http://www.wheelcollision.com They sometimes have them in stock. Panorama, occasionally. Salvadge yards are the best bet if you can hit it lucky. PartsHeaven never seems to have them.

I delt with whell enhancement years ago. I took 8 early six's to them in hopes of doing some sort of trade plus cash deal for some 16's. The wheels i took in were perfect, straight and no curb rash. One of the co owners[i wont mention his name] told his help to put them on the spin balancer to check for straightness. He then told me they were all bent and that they were only worth $40.00 each. Im no fool , i didnt like his arogant attitude. I took my wheels home.
|
Thanks for leads. I'll let you know what I find. There is a solo 9x16 currently on ebay. Maybe I'll get them one at a time. Don't run it up on me!
|
Wheel Enhancements is still able to buy 9" Fuchs from the OEM manufacturer which is still producing them is small production runs. What they offer in trade and buy back is insulting. Patience and frequently checking on the Classified sections of PP or Panorama is a good source.
|
I am always amazed at what the wheel places offer in trade. I have 2 NEW never been on a car Speedline for Porsche in 10X18, and wanted to trade for 2 8x18 of the same. The guy in GB wanted my new rims plus about 1200$ for the (2) used 8X18 he had...
|
GeorgeK, that guy is probably still trying to get rid of those wheels!
I saw that LA Auto Dismantler for Porsches had a few 9x16s so I put an email in to them to see what they had and what kind of price. |
Last set of 7&9's I bought came with hoosiers mounted
$1000 |
Stoopid question: Does the 9" fit the SC and carrera in the rear, the non turbo look / turbo cars?
Pics anyone? TIA, George 81 SC Coupe |
Yup....but the biggest tires that fit can rub. Best size I have seen is the 8 with a 245/45.....
|
Thanks Mike, I thought that 8 was what most people went with.

7s/9s 245/45s on my 86 Cab.
Previous owner paid $750 each from Performance Wheel & Tire in Englewood CO. There was some rubbing of the fenders on the front tires, even though it is at stock height. I rolled back the front fenders to accomodate. This pic is pre-fender rolling. No rubbing at all on the rears, as there is plenty of room. It is almost time for some new tires on front and back. http://www.pelicanparts.com/pmpre/im...onics_911c.JPG |

I just paid 1000, for excellent condition polished 7's and 8's. In pricing 9's they averaged 700 to 900 each. I found some used for 650.00 but they were not in great shape. The only benefit I can see is a small amount of sidewall deflection difference on the 8's. I'm running 245's, which are the only reasonable width for Carrera flares. Much wider tires in the correct height are difficult to find. My sidewalls don't buldge at all on my 8's so I decided to save some money, and got a good deal. The 8's are just about as pricy as the 9's.
BTW... Wheel Enhancements is run by a bunch of *********s. I have never received anything but attitude in the few times I've talked to them. It amazes me they are still in business. |
I don't care for Wheel Enhancement either. They won't give you squat for your trade in, yet want top dollar for their wheels.
With no street advantage of 9's over 8's (except bragging rights), and the cost and availability being same (maybe 8's even rarer than 9's to find), I went with the 8's. Also, despite the fact that most guys with 245/45's on 9's have no problems, i have heard a couple guys have rubbing issues. Lastly, the 8's and 9's have the same depth LIP, so look similar mounted. The extra inch of the 9's are offset inboard. Lastly, i do feel the winning bid of $1715 is high. I got my set off ebay (16x7+8's), then finished by Al Reed for total under $1000. Anyway, here are mine: Mike '86 coupehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1070180407.jpg |

Try Harvey Wiedman; great guy, great work. I have no experience with Al Reed, but he too has a good rep. Maybe not the same level of work as Wiedman, but great prices. |
I've been thinking of going to 9's in the rear but at my ride height in the rear of 23 3/4's I wonder if I will have a rubbing problem with 245's 45's?

I like it :D TRE set it up and it seem's to be fine. I don't feel it bottoming out but I kinda watch for the big bumps. I put the tow hook reinforcers in the front and they strike once in a while.
If I was daily driving her It might be to low. |
Hmm, immaculate 87 930 fuchs?
I wonder what the chances are that they are the old set from my car that the PO sold . . Judging by the prices I have seen on e-bay and elsewhere over the past few years I think fuchs are starting to appreciate. |
I price these babies about 6 weeks ago. The going rate for polished was around a grand a piece. The 8's weren't much cheaper. I looked all around the country and Canada too.
In my opinion 8's are the way to go if you can find them, but basically your in the same boat... Here is a pick of one of mine... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1070249933.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1070249959.jpg |

My $0.02...
Check your local PCA classifieds. Yeah, I know, everyone says this. I always thought it was pointless, esp. looking for wheels. Bored, I checked the local PCA Potomac classifieds. Next day I was the owner of a nice set of 951 8s and 930 9s w/ Toyo Proxies... $1300. |
Hey Doc,
I tried Wheel Collision Center. They looked for a couple months for 9's but couldn't come up with any. Nice people though. |

RT...
The 9" wheel has exactly the same outboard profile as the 8". All of the additional width is inboard. As long as the wheels are Turbo offset they should not rub, even with 245's. Unless the car is really slammed or the camber is goofy... |
Bought mine from a PCA member in Portland who advertised in Pano. Drove down there looked at them and paid 1400, for a nice set of 7/9's. Then took them to a local metal polisher who did them up for 135.00 a piece including caps.
