Distributor help - 87 Carrera

Hello Gang

I was just chaning the cap and rotor on my 87 and ran into a snag. The rotor was kinda stuck, so I gave it a little tug to help it off. Not a real tug, just a little persuasion to get it off the distributor. Rotor came off, but so did the top of the distributor and 2 little springs. I put things back together, but dont want to fire it up until I see how things should look, before my episode. Below is the pic of how things are now. It doesnt seem that the springs are solidly attached to one of the posts. Is this the way they are, or is something broken?

Any help is much appreciated!

Chris

That looks right. As long as the rotor is allowed to twist slightly against the spring tension, you're fine.

Cheers,

Joe

Thanks for the advice. I looked at another car today and indeed mine distributor is a little damaged. Turns out there are supposed to be orange plastic 'retainers' on both posts. Hopefully my 'fix' will hold.
