Porsche on Speedvision?
I thought I heard Porsche may be the topic of "victory by design"
show on speedvision on Sunday. It doesn't say in my TV guide, but I thought I heard a promo while they went to commercial earlier today. Anyone Know?

Thanks DanS91!
I'll make sure I set my Video. I love the in-car of Brain Redmond driving an early 911 on public streets during practice for the Targa Florio!

I just watched the Jaguar version, wow beatuiful cars.
Too bad about Speed Channels commercial strategy - commercial break every 7 minutes! It's painful to watch.

What was the name of that first V12 prototype, XJ13? The sound of that V12 sent chills down my spine, I believe I could listen to that all day. Pity about the electrical systems though...

The XJ 13 was just the most flat out gorgeous of the more modern Jags! It owuld earn a place in my filthy stinkin' rich guys garage even if the electrical only worked half the time! I'd just stare at it the other half!
I think I saw the Porsche Victory by Design last year, and loved it, but was disappointed by the lack of 911 coverage. But an hour is a pretty tight period to fit the entire history of a company in!

You'd have to be incredibly filthy rich Jake, didn't they say there's only one in existance? Regardless of reliability, all of those cars were works of art, but that XJ 13, oooooooh.

I thought the car being driven through the streets by Redmond was a 914. Anybody clarify this?

That XJ13 is actually a re-creation of the original car which was destroyed in a crash during testing. I saw the re-creation at Goodwood FOS back in 2000 and got some great audio of the engine being blipped in the paddock. Turns out the driver that day was none other the the offical factory test driver, Norman Dewes, who was also the driver during the original crash.

Well, you withstood the Cayenne abuse, and i'd say that your affection for the XJ13 is far more understandable!

But, back to Porsches.....the show just finished, and they added a bit on the Carrera GT! I must say, that it has the sweetest sound this side of....well, nothing! I know, blasphemy! But if you heard it, you'd agree it ranks in the top exaust notes of all time.
No dispespect to my own 911, Ducatis, certain V-8s, and of course, many Ferraris intended....

Carrera GT does provide some competition for the exhaust note I'd most like to lull me to sleep, it's up there with the XJ13 from last night. Beautiful! Anyone have the video version, is it longer? This one seemed like there were parts cut.

I believe that there are more than a couple of posters here on this board that have a Jag in their garage.

and as an added bonus, after PBD is the '93 Japanese grand prix. Senna was amazing. And a pretty entertaining race...some sun, some rain, some crashes. All good fun.

He might have been amazing, but his cocky "holier than thou" attitude was obvoius. I'm sorry that he died, of course.
I never appreciated his self centered crash tactics, his whining, and his hypocritical ways. I think Shumacher could have given him a taste of his own medicine.

Just saw the 1/2 hour show on how they made Victory By Design. They closed by saying, "if you like the TV version you will love the full length, wide screen, surround sound DVD version".
From there web site http://www.victorybydesign.com/porsche.htm Porsche was the featured marque in the very first “Victory by Design” show. It has now been updated to include new sequences and re-formatted in widescreen with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 Surround Sound. Porsche is different from the other “Victory by Design” shows in that it is largely archive-driven. It contains rare and fascinating film shot by Huschke Von Hanstein and Dr Ferry Porsche as they built up the Porsche company through the 1950s, using motor sport as a means of development and promotion on a world wide scale. Combining this extensive archive film with Alain de Cadenet driving and appraising the milestone competition and production cars spanning Porsche’s history – from “Porsche Number One” through to the latest limited-edition supercar, the Carrera GT – a complete picture of the marque is built up. Adding to the mix are the authoritative insights of motoring historian and Porsche aficionado, Doug Nye. Featured Cars:- Porsche Number One 356 550 & RSK Series 911 904 906 Bergspyder (Hillclimb) 910 & 907 908 908/3 (& 916) 917 917/10 917/30 911 RS & RSR Series 935 936 935/78 (“Moby Dick”) 936/81 956 & 962 959 993 & 996 911 GT1 Carrera GT Ruf R Turbo ![]()
