thought id fire up this thread again. I think that im going to use SDS. it seems like it is pretty affordable and simple to use as well. im not looking for a balls out ultra trick efi system, just something that will get rid of the CIS and give me some protection at higher revs/boost.
there you go. Andy |
I'm interested as well especially after I saw that it was only a grand.
What are the major advantages of the system overall and do you need to get some throttle bodies as well? |
brother, a lot of people use the carrera intake and possibly fuel rails (although don't quote me on the fuel rails!)
does look like a good cheap solution though, and im not bothered about looking hard with my laptop on the passenger seat, im just after a cheap reliable programmable system that beats CIS what engine are you building? Andy |
I'm suprised only one person has mentioned the Autronic. The price and enabled functions are truly hard to beat.
One place where it really shines is the Autotune feature. Instead of spending countless dyno pulls ($$$$$$$$) getting the targeted air/fuel on other systems you can just tell the Autronic what the targeted mixture is and the programming corrects any problems in 1-2 pulls. I'm personally going with a fully enabled Motec M48 but the Autronic should definitely be near the top of anyones list who is looking at these systems. |
Hi,
For the DIY people, there is another alternative FWIW: VEMS 449.- Euros completely assembled. Has spark and fuel control. Also can be had with integrated WB control. Code is in 'C' and therefore easily changable. Uses Megasquirt tuning software. Regards, Klaus |

I'm just looking for reliability and some power that can't be had from the CIS. The engine still pulls strong now so I'm not going to rebuild it in the future when there is an actual problem. I'm just trying to get everything 100% functional. With the funky mixture control and the backfiress, I would like to go to a more modern fuel injection. When I do rebuild, I want to use slightly higher compression pistons, S cams, SSI's, and a sport muffler. Nothing fancy, but I was thinking about going to PMO's both for the look and power, but for ease of use and possibly lower to comprable price, the FI would be sweet. |

sounds like you got some good plans brother!

If we're discussing the autronic SMC, it might be worth while to look at the Link 2 system, which has all the features of the autronic, but adds individual cylinder knock retard and has a unit cost significantly less than the autronic. Don't get me wrong, I agree that the autronic is a wonderful system, especially when fitted with the autotune option for wideband o2. I used such a system on a 2.6 porsche 914 engine and was able to get 35 highway mpg out of a 220 HP N/A engine.
BTW, here's the link for the link 2 system: http://www.link-electro-usa.com/wire-in.link2.html Charles Navarro LN Engineering http://www.LNengineering.com Aircooled Precision Performance |
