Suggested fix for O2 Sensor Connection ?
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
When I dropped the engine I discovered that the ceramic part of the O2 sensor connector was broken and the copper wire inside was exposed (but still attached to both ends). I don't particularly want to replace the entire unit as I believe that runs to the Lamba box and I can't imagine that is a cheap part. My first thought was to clean the tarnishing and then use JB Weld to put the ends back together but I'm not sure if that would negatively impact what the ceramic was intended to do. While I am considering running with my O2 sensor unplugged I figured it would be easier to fix this now instead of later when the engine is back in just in the event it is needed. TIA. ![]()

I happened to be at Zim's in Dallas when we found the same thing on my 85. He had an extra harness from a wrecked car and cut it off and gave it to me. I paid the mechanic to solder it to the harness in my car (it was not easy to get to BTW) and it worked fine.
No ideas on repairing one but it sure did not look like it would hold so I replaced mine. With your engine out it would make it worlds easier and I would still try to replace it. Joe

Joe - when you say harness do you mean the main harness or just the wire from the ceramic connector (ie., black wire coming out the left side in my picture)? I'm thinking I could easily do the same on my black wire. Thanks for the idea.

We just soldered the pigtail that came out of the main harness. The other option would be to split the covering on the main harness and go from there but that would be even more work. Problem was that the center wire is pretty large and a single thread with a outside shielded covering. Yours may be different but you need to have some experience in soldering before trying it. It was just a bear to get to with my car and yours would be alot easier now that the motor is out. I would call or email a couple of wrecking yards and try to get the piece off of a burned or wrecked car and go from there. Joe

Mine is the same way, I understand it is relatively common. I just plug it in and it works even though the part around the connector is crumbling.

20th street auto in Phoenix. They advertise in Pano. Was a thread about them and also another wrecking yard in the last day or so.
