Another windsheild trim question.

If you have been following my windsheild install post, you know that I have been trying to replace my front windsheild with an updated 964 rubber and glass with no luck. So I went back to stock for 77 911.

The question I have is can the trim (bazel) be installed into the rubber seal after the windsheild has been installed or does it have to be in place before installing the glass into the car?

Or, could I leave it out all together? Which is just a question, I just had it powder coated so I'm sure that I will use it.

The trim needs to be installed in the rubber first or you will never get it in. You can not leave the trim out as it is what expands the rubber and makes it fit tight. You don't want to brake hard one day and have your glass flying out.

I've heard you can do the pull string process to do this - with some thin nylon cord and LOTS of water based lube in the channel - but I'm skeptical this will work. Maybe with a helper pushing the glass from the inside (carefully!).

I borrowed some professional installer suction cups with a handle attached. Very handy for moving the glass safely. Moving side to side helps to relieve pressure on one side.

Of course you know if you bend your metal trim AT ALL, it becomes almost impossible to seat - so be careful and work slowly if you try it.

If you've ever worked with the trim piece and window, you'd see this must be an urban myth.

Seem completely impossible. It's tricky enough getting the trim to seat properly when the windshield is out of the car.

And, even if it were possible, it would take 10X the time (at least) and aggravation of just taking the window back out and doing it the right way.

The entire window, seal and trim must be assembled before the windshield is corded into the car. Others here have put the trim in afterwards but why?

I pulled out my windshield to powder coat the trim, didn t have any problems when putting back in.

Just take time, and dont force anything. Definitely use the string method.

KTL/ Kevin suggests setting up the trim and laying it on the glass, before the rubber install, to check if the trim is bent
