73 Carrera touring on eBay

What do we think? My first thought is that the starting price is even too high given the cost of restoring one of these correctly...

I'll bet that car gets 20 bids or more! It's got the right VIN to command some serious $$.

Starting price is right, IMHO.

Big questions on the engine -- maybe a restamped case?

I'd sure go over it with a fine-toothed comb, and I may just drive down to see it. Pretty sure I wouldn't pay much more than $35K for it, though.

At that price (clearly well under their reserve), I'd just drive it.

I'd love to have an original RS in my garage and if I thought I could have this one for $35k, I'd be robbing the girls college accounts on Monday! I do not think the reserve is too high.

Well, I just threw $35K at it on principle.

In the words of my good friend Tom Hanks,

"RUN FORREST, RUN!!!!!!'

I've inspected this car firsthand in Orange County. To call it a rust bucket is an understatement. Not to mention non-matching #'s case. I couldn't even confirm that it was the right type, as I couldn't locate the 911/83 stamp. Needs everything, paint, rust repair, full mech rebuild, full interior, etc. The only thing I liked about this car was the correct plastic fuel tank. If anybody is SERIOUS about the car and wants more info, shoot me a PM.

Good luck to all bidders. You've been warned!!!

I realize it will bring more dough. I am just saying, a correct restoration, including the unknowns of the rust damage could be close to 6 digits. I think you would be way better off to 'buy right' on an original preserved car for $60 to $80 total investment. No?

Wolfturbo, can't 'shoot you a PM according to Pelican.

Curious what you found. I've heard talk of much worse RSs bringing in the high 30s to low 40s. But the authenticity of the engine is certainly an issue.
