What's the difference between the '74 RS (as above) and an RSR? I recently bought a track car that looks just like the one above (a clone based on a '75 Carrera) It also has a 2.8 twin plug instead of the 3.0.

RSR is the "racing" version of the "street" RS....

Reading this, I was pleasantly surprised to read that my car is currently very similar to this Carrera RS 3.0. My car weighs approximately the same as this (right around 2400lbs) and has approximately 245hp (albeit via a Motronic-injected 3.2 in lieu of a MFI-equipped 3.0 liter).
It's amazing to realize that what was amazing performance almost 30 years ago is routinely achievable these days.... Mike

The RS 3.0 was much cloesr to an RSR than the RS 2.7 was to the 2.8 RSR. Besides the RSR brake system with dual masters, the car also had fiberglass front and rear bumpers, thin window glass, reinforced welding in the chassis, shorter RSR rear control arms, plastic 100 liter racing gas tank, and 8/9 x 15s with the turbo width steel flares (actually these were similar to the ST flares as the 74/75 RSR had fiberglass 11 and 13 vented flares to accomodate the knock offs and larger wheels). That rear tail had real rubber on its edging- TUV would not allow the one piece iroc version (yes, the cars were street legal in europe)
The IROC/ RSR was a 3.0 liter high butterfly race engine installed in this model. The cars are a ball to drive with plenty of torque and horsepower that belies the published facts. They are also very rare: only 47 left drivers produced (plus the iroc / RSR). |
