Which clutch should I get?
Stock or Sachs Power Clutch?
It's a stock 3.0 SC motor, SSI's and exhaust. Nothing too snazzy going on here. I will be using it mainly for AutoX and DE's. Is the upgrade to the Power Clutch worth it? |

Chrisp,
Go with the upgrade to the Sachs' Power clutch. Stay away, IMHO. from a lighter flywheel. Larry H

Cant comment on the Sachs -heard good things.
I do have a lightweight fw and personally I love it. It needed a chip to sort out the hunting at idle, but that's all sussed out and it just seems to spool up real quick compared to friends cars. This is on my 964. Certainly lots of people seem to have bad experiences with lwf's but others dont and swear by them. I'd like to have the money to do a proper comparison - changed fw/clutch packages around on the same car and test the differences. Cheers Mark

I'm in the middle of this same decision. What do you base your reccommendations on? What improvement over the stock setup have you experienced with the Power clutch? Thank you!!!

I have a Truman aluminum flywheel on a 3.3+-liter twin-plug modified SC, as well as an alumiinum clutch, and I love it. I have a harder time getting my wife's stock Boxster off the mark.

Go with the Sachs Power Clutch, I did and an very happy. The kit is one of the best you can get (got it from Pelican), and DO the clutch cable while you're at it.
I can't beleive I put up with the clutch the way it was, (I thought it was normal), now it shifts like butter. I was looking though for a lightweigth bell housing as it can save 5-10lbs, but I am very happy with the Sachs kit. Happy motoring....

Mike,
See Bob James' memo above. I am nearing a new clutch myself and two of my P-car mechanics advised against the light weight fly wheel. You won't spool-up as quickly off the line, but once you are rolling the difference is neglible(above 3000 rpm) Ask around though. Larry Harris 85 Carrera factory turbo-look 2003 350Z
