Crankshaft Pulley Weights

I'm thinking of replacing the crankshaft pulley on my 3.2 Carrera but I see it is weighted for balance. Were 3.2 crankshaft pulleys balanced with the crankshaft? If so I don't want to install a pulley that doesn't match. I see lots of pulleys for sale new but the listings don't say anything about if and how they are balanced.

AFIK they are balanced as a single part. Like a wheel and tire combo, then installed, silly to balance it to an engine and/r require balancing every time it is replaced....

Agree with JB. Individually balanced.

I replaced the original dual row pulley on my former '87 Carrera with a brand new single pulley from Porsche and had no issues with imbalance/vibration.

If you want to get all you can out of the pulley replacement, why not install an aluminum alloy pulley. Rothsport makes a nice one. Welcome to Rothsport Racing - Engine Products

I have an unused Rothsport and used Rothsport with 36-1 trigger wheel. I overordered from Pelican...

Thanks for the input. I almost added the Rothsport 126 mm single pulley to my order yesterday but wasn't sure if I had the correct bolt - mine is the stock 22 mm length bolt holding the stock double pulley.

If you happen to have the Porsche PET parts diagrams, take a look at the crankshaft diagram and you'll see that pulleys #12 (single pulley for just the fan) and #12A (double pulley for fan and A/C) both use the same bolt #15 that is M12 x 1.5 x 22

Note that this bolt can be a bear to remove. It's got a serrated surface underneath the bolt head and it bites into the pulley surface VERY well. I recall some discussions about this in the past and then the thread was resurrected a few years ago when someone asked about the torque for the Rothsport aluminum pulley install.

crank pulley bolt - washer or no washer
