Bilstein Question

I have the normal black Boge struts on the front of my SC. I was given a set of lightly used Bilstein's to swap in. I checked Bilstein's wb site to see if they were HD's or Sports. They are HD's ( P36-0114). These are listed as for '85- '89. What is the difference? Will they not fit?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what the difference is, but the change from part number P36-0112 happened 4/1985, so I would say that there is indeed a difference, and they probably won't work.

Is it a physical size issue, or a valving issue?

I'd call them and find out-if you search on "revalving Bilstein" or something like that, you'll probably find contact info for their tech folks, IIRC.

If they're Bilsteins for Boge struts, I doubt there is a physical size difference, as the struts are the same. Probaby different valving to accomodate the diff weight etc of the Carrera.

Any one else have any ideas? Otherwise, I will try to contact Bilstein.

In the Pelican Catalogue there is a change in March of 1985 for Bilstein shocks however for Koni the part number stays the same. I would assume (we all know what that means) that it is not a dimensional issue but possibly a valving issue and Bilstein would be the place to find out.

Resolution (for future reference):

I called Bilstein, and they were very helpful. They said that physically, there was no difference. They suggested that it would be a little stiffer than the P36-0112, and that the retaining nut is different. The part number for the correct retaining nut is 440959. I suppose Pelican can get them (or has them).
So, these are usable, as long as I get the right retaining nuts.

Note: These are simply inserts for the OE Boge struts, not entirely new struts.

struts is struts, is struts BOGE/BILSTEIN/KONI, they all fit all 911's from 69-89, as long as your replacing the whole front strut assembly that is.

Of course they may not fit your brake calipers but that's another story.......;)

The part number that he gave was for the frt inserts, I am mostly certain.

FWIW, when I got my P36-0114 for my '88 it came with two nuts, an inside and an outside.
