A Paint Question

Looking at an '87 Coupe. The owner sent this pic (minus the text). He says the "clear coat is peeling".

Is this salvageable or is it time for new paint?

Looks like the door was repainted in the past. At the very least, that door would have to be resprayed and maybe even stripped first.

I think my car is the original base coat with a newer clear coat. a very thick clear coat. It shines like crazy but there are some places where you can see problems under the clear coat. Overall its exceptable to me for now until I get rich tomorrow and all hell breaks loose. Then maybe I'll sink 7 thousand more into my 12 thousand dollar car.
Be carful about buying a bad paint job. It may be the most expensive part of the car. it is a buyers market, until tomorrow anyway
