Who can raise my Bilstein spindles?

Gang,

I ran across one of the major Porsche race suppliers who would modify the Bielstein struts for raised spindles, but cannot remember exactly who it was. Does anyone know?

Thanks,

Chris

I'm sure there are many loving, nurturing families out there who would just love to raise your bilsteins.

I saw another 914-oriented vendor who wanted mid-$200s

I believe that, for the extra cost, Rennsport also bends the steering arm so it matches up with the steering rack better.
I wonder if Fabcar does it, in Indiana. They were very reasonable in what they charged me for my front A-arm mods.

Tangerine Racing does raised spindles. His name is Chris Foley and it's petty close to tangerineracing .com, if not that. I moved the dot so it didn't create a bad link.

The picture at the TangeringRacing link suggests they also bend the steering arm. Smart Racing also provides this service for about 120 per side.

I need someone who can bend the arm to match the other shock I have... I have one that is raised and bent, one that is not...

...but they also need to be valved, which I've heard Smart Racing does well. If I could get it done in one shebang, so much the better...

A guy by the name of German Car Specialist here in CA does them for $175 / pair. You just have to pay the shipping both ways, not too bad... He did mine and they turned out very nice.

Thanks.

After evaluating how it is done, I think I am going to do it myself. Just a matter of drilling out the one weld that holds it on, moving the spindle, and re-welding it...

Now, does anyone know why the threaded portion of the shock cartridge (bit that goes through the camber plate) is 1" long on one, and 0.5" long on the other?!

Also don't forget to weld on the metal gussets.

Be careful. I had a modified strut fail at mid-ohio. I replaced them with RSR struts, which have the spindle already relocated.

I appreciate it guys. I have an good example of one that was already modified. Angular gussets were added to strengthen the spindle onto the strut, which I will also do... More than likely I'll make additional welds around the perimeter that even Bilstein doesn't do.

I talked to a guy with a set of stock 79 struts who said his threaded portion is 1" long, whereas one of the ones I have is 1/2"... Sounds like I got an odd cartridge in one. Easy to find a replacement I hope...
